Today, your Bleacher Denizen is in Dansville where the hometown Aggies will host Waverly in a baseball doubleheader.
It’s an extremely windy day in Dansville and the wind is blowing back toward home plate. Anyone who hits a home run today will really have to clout the ball!

It is now time to review the events of this game through the occasionally clear lenses of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to get his baseball career going. Unfortunately, pitches seemed faster than the speed of light when your Bleacher Denizen was hoping to make his bat collide with baseballs. This was a challenge he seldom if ever surmounted. (However, he was excellent at eating ice cream after games!)
Trey Combs led off the top of the first inning for Waverly with a wind-blown double to right field. Carter Owens singled to right field and Trey Combs advanced to third base. Carter Owens stole second base. Trey Owens scored and Carter Owens took third base on a wild pitch. Dansville Pitcher Quentin Mayes retired the next Warrior hitter on a grounder to third base as the runner held. Carter Owens scored on an RBI groundout to second base by Iggy Arroyo.
Jackson DeLong drew a walk and stole second base and then third base. Cavren Gavin made a long run into right field and fought off the wind as he caught a fly for the third out.
Waverly scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Jackson Gomez struck out the first two Aggie hitters in the bottom of the first inning. Mayson Burgett singled off the shortstop’s glove and stole second base. Jackson Gomez struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Dom Stone led off the top of the second inning for Waverly with a walk and went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by T.J. Stewart. Dansvile Pitcher Quentin Mayes retired the next two Waverly hitters on a bouncer to the mound and a grounder to third base.
Quentin Mayes led off the bottom of the second inning for Dansville with a line drive single to left field. Randolph Schneider entered the game as a courtesy runner for Quentin Mayes. The next Aggie hitter grounded a ball to Waverly Shortstop Iggy Arroyo, who flipped it to second baseman Trey Combs, who fired the ball to first baseman James Darnell to complete the double play. Jackson Gomez struck out the nexxt Dansville batter to end the inning.
After two full innings, Waverly had a 2-0 lead.
Carter Owens beat out an infield single to lead off the top of the third inning for Waverly and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Jackson Gomez singled up the middle to drive Carter Owens home. He went to third base on an overthrow. Jackson Gomez scored on an RBI groundout to third base by Iggy Arroyo.
Jackson DeLong walked. Jackson DeLong advanced all the way to third base on a groundout to shortstop by James Darnell.
Joey McMillan came in to pitch for Dansville. Wyatt Mosely went to first base. Quentin Mayes moved to shortstop and Austin Hovey went out to center field. Jackson DeLong scored when Dom Stone was safe at first base on an error. Dom Stone stole second base and took third base on a wild pitch. T.J. Stewart walked and stole second base. Joey Hand-Diaz walked to load the bases. Dansville Pitcher Joey McMillan knocked down a soft fly and threw the batter out at first base to get the third Waverly out.
Waverly scored three runs in the top of the third inning to boost its lead to 5-0.
Waverly PItcher Jackson Gomez retired the three Aggie hitters in the bottom of the third inning on a grounder to first base and two strikeouts.
Carter Owens singled to left field to lead off the top of the fourth inning for Waverly and stole second base. Jackson Gomez singled to right field to drive Carter Owens home and stole second base. Iggy Arroyo walked. Jackson DeLong walked to load the bases. Jackson Gomez scored on a wild pitch as Iggy Arroyo advanced to third base and Jackson DeLong to second. James Darnell walked to reload the bases.
Dom Stone singled to center field to drive in Iggy Arroyo as Jackson DeLong went to third base and James Darnell to second base. T.J. Stewart singled to right field to drive Jackson DeLong and James Darnell in. Dom Stone went to second base. Dom Stone advanced to second base. Dom Stone took third base and T.J. Stewart second base on a groundout to second base by Joey Hand-Diaz. Dom Stone scored and T.J. Stewart went to third base on an RBI groundout to second base by Trey Combs. Waverly made its third out when Austin Hovey made a nice play on a wind-blown fly to center field.
Waverly scored six runs in the top of the fourt inning to take an 11-0 lead.
Waverly PItcher Jackson Gomez struck out Dansville’s leadoff batter in the top of the fourth inning. Mayson Burgett singled to left field. Dansville made the final two outs of the inning on a line drive to right field by Wyatt Mosely and a groundout to third base.
Jackson Gomez lined a single to center field to lead off the to lead off the top of the fifth inning for Waverly and went to second base on a groundout to first base by Iggy Arroyo. Jackson Gomez advanced to third base on a bounce out to the mound by Jackson DeLong. Dansville Pitcher Joey McMillan struck out the next Warrior hitter to end the inning.
Chris Verderese came in to pitch the bottom of the fifth inning for Waverly.
Nathan Sherwood led off the bottom of the fifth inning for Dansville with an infield single and advanced to second base on a bouncer to the mound by Cavren Gavin. Joey McMillan walked. Nathan Sherwood advanced to third base and Joey McMillan to second base on a passed ball. Austin Hovey lined a single to center field to drive Nathan Sherwood home as JOey McMillan advanced to third base. Austin Hovey stole second base. The next Dansville hitter was out on a fly to center field.
Dansville scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
As Waverly was ahead by ten runs (11-1) after five full innings, the mercy rule was invoked and Waverly won the game.
Austin Hovey had a single and one RBI for Dansville. Mayson Burgett, Quentin Mayes and Nathan Sherwood each had one single.
Quentin Mayes pitched 2 1/3 innings for Dansville. Joey McMillan pitched 2 2/3 innings.
Carter Owens had three singles for Waverly. Jackson Gomez had two singles and two RBI. Trey Combs had a double and one RBI. T.J. Stewart had a single and two RBI. Dom Stone had a single and one RBI. Iggy Arroyo had tw RBI.
Jackson Gomez pitched the complete five inning game for Waverly. He gave up one run and four hits while striking out seven batters.
