Today, the Bleacher Denizen is at Dansville getting ready to cover the second game of the dowubleheader between the host Dansville Aggies and the Waverly Warriors. I also covered the first game. It is now time to review the events of this game through the lenses of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to get his baseball career going in the days of yore when he attempted to play. He was making progress pitching curve balls, but everything was ruined when the baseball powers that be ruled that the Bleacher Denizen could no longer use the wind machine he was using to make the ball move. No speed, plus no break on the curve meant no time on the mound for your Bleacher Denizen. Alas.
Dansville Pitcher Nathan Sherwood struck out Waverly’s leadoff batter in the top of the first inning. Carter Owens was hit by a pitch. Jackson Gomez was safe at first base and Carter Owens ouaat at second base on a fielder’s choice grounder to the third baseman. Waverly made its third out on a bouncer to the mound.
Broady Scott was safe at first base on an error to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Dansville. Broady Scott went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Hunter Greenman. Waverly Pitcher Iggy Arroyo retired the next Aggie batter on a fly to center field. Wyatt Mosley singled to center field. Waverly Center Fielder Jackson DeLong threw the ball to First Baseman James Darnell, who relayed the ball home; the runner trying to score from second base made Dansville’s third out.
Jackson DeLong singled to lead off the top of the second inning for Waverly. Nathan Sherwood picked the runner off first base. Waverly made the final two outs of the inning on a grounder to the shortstop and a grounder to second base.
Waverly Pitcher Iggy Arroyo retired the three Dansville hitters in the bottom of the second inning on a bouncer to the mound, a fly to right field and a grounder to shortstop.
Dansville PItcher Nathan Sherwood retired the first two Waverly batters in the top of the third inning on wwgrounders to the shortstop. Trey Combs was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Waverly made itsnder final out of the inning on another grounder to the shortstop.
Waverly Pitcher Iggy Arroyo retired the three Dansville batters in the bottom of the third inning on a grounder to shortstop, a grounder to third base and a fly to second base.
Nathan Sherwood retired the first two Waverly batters in the top of the fourth inning on a line drive to second base and a fly to right field where Hunter Greenman fought off the wind to make the catch. Jackson DeLong singled to left field and went to second base when James Darnell was safe at first base on an error.
Mayson Burgett came in to pitch for Dansville. Nathan Sherwood moved to third base and Joey McMillan to shortstop. Mayson Burgett retired the next Waverly hitter on a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.
Waverly Pitcher Iggy Arroyo retired the three Aggie hitters ine bottom of the fourth inning on q bouncer to the mound, a fly to center field where Jackson DeLong fought off the sun to make the catch and a liner to third base.
Mayson Burgett got the first two Waverly batters in the top of the fifth inning out on grounders to third base. Trey Combs beat out an infield single. Waverly made its final out of the inning on a grounder to third base.
Quentin Mayes walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for Dansville. Randloph Schneider entered the game as a courtesy runner for Quentin Mayes. Waverly Pitcher Iarrggy Arroyo retired the next batter on a fly to center field and then picked the runner off first base. Iggy Arroyo struck out the next Aggie hitter to end the inning.
After five full innings, the game remained scoreless.
Jackson Gomez doubled to right field to lead off the top of the sixth inning for Waverly and stole third base. Mayson Burgett struck out the next Warrior hitter. Jackson DeLong singled to left field to bring Jackson Gomez home with the first run of the game. Mayson Burgett retired the next two Warrior batters on a grounder to third base and a strikeout to end the inning.
Waverly scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Cavren Gavin was safe at first base on an error to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning for Dansville. Austin Hovey was safe at first base and Cavren Gavin out at second on a bunt to the mound. Iggy Arroyo retired the next two Aggie batters on a bouncer to the pitcher and a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.
Mayson Burgett retired the three Waverly batters in the top of the seventh inning on a strikeout and two bouncers to the pitcher.
Mayson Burgett singled up the middle to lead off the top of the seventh inning for Dansville. Iggy Arroyo struck out the next Aggie batter. Mayson Burgett stole second base and took third base on a bouncer to the pitcher by Quentin Mayes. Mayson Burgett scored when Nathan Sherwood was safe at first base on an error. Waverly Catcher Dom Stone quickly grabbed a squib off the bat of the next hitter and threw him out at first base to end the inning.
Dansville scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Mayson Burgett retired Waverly’s leadoff batter in the top of the eighth inning on a grounder to the shortstop. Jackson Gomez beat out an infield single and took second base on a passed ball. Jackson Gomez advanced to third base on a bounce out to the pitcher by Iggy Arroyo. Jackson DeLong singled to left field to drive Jackson Gomez home with the go-ahead run.
James Darnell was safe at first base and Jackson DeLong advanced to third base when the third strike on James Darnell was not caught. With the count at two balls and two strikes on Dom Stone, the next Waverly batter, Dansville brought Randolph Schneider in to pitch. Dom Stone was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Randolph Schneider retired the next Warrior on a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.
Waverly scored one run in the top of the eighth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Iggy Arroyo retired the three Dansville batters in the eight inning on a strikeout, a grounder to the shortstop and another strikeout to end the game.
Waverly won the second game of this doubleheader 2-1 in eight innings.
Mayson Burgetet and Wyatt Mosley each had a single for Dansville.
Nathan Sherwood pitched 3 2/3 innings of shutout baseball for the Aggies and struck out one batter. Mayson Burgett pitched 4 innings and gave up two runs while striking out four batters. Randolph Schneider pitched 1/3 of an inning to close the game.
Jackson DeLong had four singles and drove in both Waverly runs. Jackson Gomez had a double and a single while scoring both Waverly runs. Trey Combs had a single.
Iggy Arroyo pitched a complete eight inning game for the Warriors. He gave up only two hits and one unearned run while striking out four batters.
