The first game of the Bleacher Denizen’s day way this exciting softball game between East Lansing and Fowler that ended with the tying run on third base!

Sacred Heart will bat first.

It is now time to look at the events of this game through the eyes of a Bleacher Denizen who will always fondly recall the only fair ball he ever hit in little league.

Connor Stempky opened the game with a line drive single to centerfield. Grady Pieratt singled to centerfield; Connor Stempky advanced to second base. Aidan Halliday pounded a home run over the centerfield fence and drove in Connor Stempky and Grady Pieratt.

Brady Gruss walked. He went to third base on a double by David Hunter. Brady Gruss scored and David Hunter took third base on a wild pitch. Wyatt Browne drew a walk. Ty Murray struck out the next batter. Wyatt Browne stole second base. Christ McMahon walked to load the bases. Ty Murray struck out the next Irish batter. David Hunter scored, Wyatt Browne went to third base and Chris McMahon took second base on a wild pitch. The next batter was out on a bouncer to first base to end the inning.

Sacred Heart scored five runs in the top of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Irish Pitcher Aida Halliday retired the three Coleman first inning batters on a grounder to first base, a grounder to second base and a strikeout.

Grady Pieratt doubled to the centerfield fence to lead off the second inning for the Irish. Aidan Halliday drew a walk. The next batter was out on a foul popup to the first baseman. Grady Pieratt and Aidan Halliday stole third base and second base. Grady Pieratt scored on David Hunter’s fielder’s choice grounder to third base. David Hunter was safe at first; the runner was caught in a rundown.

Wyatt Browne walked. Sacred Heart made the final out of the inning on a one hopper to the pitcher’s mound.

Sacred Heart scored one run in the top of the second inning to extend its lead to 6-0.

Travis Murray walked to open the second inning for Coleman. Konner Carbeno hit into a force play at second; an error was made relaying the ball to first base for the double play and Konner Carbeno ended up on second base. The next batter was out on a popped bunt to the pitcher. Aidan Halliday picked the runner off second base to end the inning.

Sacred Heart’s leadoff batter in the top of the third inning was out on a fly to left field. Joe Howell singled to center field. Joe Howell went to second base on a wild pitch. Connor Stempky walked.

Ayden Ruhle came in to pitch for Coleman. Ty Klopf moved to catcher and Ty Murray took over at shortstop.

Grady Pieratt doubled to drive in Joe Howell. Connor Stempky went to third base on the play. Ayden Ruhle struck out the next batter. An error on a pickoff throw allowed Connor Stempky to score and Grady Pieratt moved to third base. Brady Gruss was safe at second base on an error. Grady Pieratt scored on the play.

Brady Gruss moved to third base on a passed ball. David Hunter singled to drive in Brady Gruss. Wyatt Browne walked. David Hunter moved to third and Wyatt Browne to second on a wild pitch. Ayden Ruhle struck out the next batter to end the inning.

After two and a half innings, Sacred Heart held a 10-0 lead.

Joe McDonald came in to pitch for Sacred Heart. Joe McDonald struck out the first two Comet batters in the third inning. Ty Klopf tripled to the right field fence. Joe McDonald struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Ayden Ruhle struck out the first two Irish batters in the fourth inning. Connor Stempky singled to left field. Grady Pieratt doubled to centerfield to move Connor Stempky to third base. Aidan Halliday walked to load the bases. Connor Stempky scored, Grady Pieratt moved to third base and Aidan Halliday took second base on a wild pitch. Brady Gruss drove in Grady Pieratt with an infield single. Aidan Halliday moved to third base. The Irish made their final out of the inning on a fly to center.

Sacred Heart scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 12-0.

Joe McDonald struck out the leadoff Comet batter in the top of the fourth inning. Travis Murray walked and stole second base. Joe McDonald struck out the next hitter. Travis Murray stole third base. Joe McDonald struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Wyatt Browne singled to right field to open the fifth inning for Sacred Heart. Luke Hacker grounded a single to left field and Wyatt Browne advanced to second base. Ayden Ruhle struck out the next two batters and got the third out on a fly to left field to hold the Irish scoreless for the inning.

Brady Gruss came in to pitch for Sacred Heart. Brady Gruss retired the three Comet batters in the fifth inning on a grounder to shortstop followed by two strikeouts.

The game ended because of the mercy rule and Sacred Heart won 12-0.

Ty Klopf had a triple for Coleman.

Grady Pieratt had three doubles, a single and an RBI for Sacred Heart. Aidan Halliday had a home run and three RBI. David Hunter had a double, a single and two RBI. Connor Stempky had two singles. Brady Gruss had a single and an RBI. Wyatt Browne, Joe Howell and Luke Hacker each had a single.

After the game, I learned that this was Coach Hartman’s 800th win!! Congratulations!!!
