Tonight, the Bleacher Denizen goes to Dansville to watch the Aggies host a girls basketball game vs. the Stockbridge Panthers. Stockbridge has a 1-0 record entering the game; this is the season opener for Dansville.

While we wait for the game to start, perhaps we can listen to this original “The Rest Of the Story” song following up “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer!”

It’s a cold day out; unfortunately, I dressed for yesterday’s weather with just a sport coat. However, I and the BleacherDenizenMobile got to Dansville in one piece and made it in for the game. Both coaches were really helpful giving me some background information about their players.

The Stockbridge coaches provided this information about their Panther players. Alaina Kellenberger is a tough defensive and rebounding presence in the post. Gracee Robidou is really quick and athletic; she is a strong perimeter defender. Taylor Lockhart defends and rebounds well in the post. She also cuts to the basket well. Maddie Dalton has an impressive basketball IQ. She is a fine defender on the perimeter and passes really well. Thalia Sayre and Taylor Asquith are tough defenders and rebounders in the post.

Dansville Coach Mike Sykes was generous with information about his Aggie players as well. Megan Zeitz is a fine all around player. She is quick and athletic enough to guard anyone on the perimeter and tall enough to be a factor rebounding and defending in the post. On offense, she is the complete package as she handles the ball and passes well enough to run the point and can score at all three levels. (Post, midrange and three point.)
Kourtney Mack is an excellent three point shooter who is a fourth year varsity starter. Gracie Taylor is an excellent passer and ball handler as well as being an aggressive perimeter defender. Elizabeth Carpenter and Emily Tringal are strong rebounders and defenders in the post. Izzy Joseph is a good three point shooter and Alaina Broyles is a solid post defender and rebounder.

It is now time to look at the events of this game through the occasionally alert eyes of an aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play basketball in high school. He showed a lot of potential as a dunker, but everything was ruined when the basketball powers that be decided to raise the basket from five feet to ten feet.

Stockbridge wins the opening tap, but their ball handler dribbles on the baseline. Dansville misfires on a triple try from the corner. The rebound goes out of bounds and the Aggies get another opportunity. Gracie Taylor passes to Kourtney Mack, who hits a three point shot from the side to give Dansville the first three points of the game.

Dansville’s press forces a Stockbridge traveling violation. Dansville misses a three point shot from the corner. Megan Zeitz gets her hand on the ball and the Panthers lose it out of bounds. Alaina Kellenberger knocks the ball out of bounds, but Dansville retains possession. Gracee Robidou knocks the inbound pass out of bounds; Dansville still retains possession. Dansville misses a threeball from the side.

Alaina Kellenberger knocks the ball away from the Aggies, but they are able to recover. Dansville is fouled on a layup, but misses two free throws. Megan Zeitz from Dansville and Taylor Lockhart from Stockbridge tie up the rebound. The Possession Arrow mulls over its decision and awards the ball to Dansville. Elizabeth Carpenter passes to Megan Zeitz, who hits a three point shot to boost the Aggie lead to 6-0.

Maddie Dalton knocks the ball away from Dansville, but the Aggies recover. Dansville loses a pass out of bounds. Stockbridge misses a three point shot from the wing. Alaina Kellenberger’s tough defense forces Dansville to call time out to avoid turning the ball over. Dansville is assessed with a traveling violation. Alaina Kellenberger passes to Taylor Asquith, who hits a layup to give Stockbridge its first points of the game. Dansville leads 9-2.

Megan Zeitz takes her turn and knocks the Panther inbound pass out of bounds; Stockbridge retains possession.

Stockbridge is fouled, but misses the first shot of a one and one free throw opportunity. Thalia Sayre steals the ball for the Panthers. Anna McDaniel responds by stealing the ball for the Aggies. Stockbridge steals the ball, but Anna McDaniel steals it back for Dansville. Izzy Joseph passes to Kourtney Mack, who hits a layup for Dansville. Thalia Sayre passes to Taylor Lockhart, who spins in the lane and hits a layup for Stockbridge to trim the Dansville lead to 20-11.

The Bleacher Denizen shows his age as he reaches for the ball, but is not quick enough. The referee points out that the Bleacher Denizen should have dived for the ball. Gracie Taylor ignores the Bleacher Denizen’s embarrassing athletic performance and passes to Kourtney Mack, who is fouled on a layup and hits two free throws to give her Aggies a 29-11 lead with 5:28 to go in the third quarter.
