Tonight, our Bleacher Denizen is coming off a Christmas break that was punctuated with a touch of flu. He is headed off to Perry where the Ramblers will host the Spartans from Webberville in a non-Conference Girls’ Basketball game. Perry enters this game with a 2-4 record while Webberville is at 3-5.

Tonight’s game is a doubleheader. The opening game features Perry’s freshman boys’ team against the Webberville JV boys. I got here in time to see the second half of that game. Webberville’s boys had a 22-19 lead over Perry. The Ramblers outscored Webberville 13-8 and took a 32-30 lead going into the fourth quarter. Alex Rockafellow had two three pointers to help push the Rambler boys in the third quarter.

Karson Lycos hit two three point shots early in the final quarter to put Webberville on top by 4. Alex Rockafellow hit a three point shot to pull Perry to within 1 point. Logan France was fouled on a putback and hit one of his two free throws for Perry to tie the game at 36-36 with 3:15 left in the game.

Camdyn Bucchanon drove and hit a layup for Webberville, stole the Perry inbound pass and quickly hit another layup to give his Spartans a four point lead. Camdyn Bucchanon hit another runner in the lane to put Webberville on top 42-36.

Alex Rockafellow threw in a two point jumper from the wing to pull Perry to within four and Zachary Miller hit a basket to cut the Spartan lead to 42-40.

Camdyn Bucchanon hit a threeball and Kaleb Matiyow hit two free throws to keep the Webberville JVs on top in the final minute. Eli Burns hit a free throw to give Perry its final point with 1.6 seconds to go.

Webberville’s JVs won the opening game 47-41.

Alex Rockafellow led Perry’s freshmen with 16 points. Eli Burns added 9 points and Logan France contributed 7 points. Zachary Miller scored 5 points and Dylan King added 4 points to round out the Perry scoring.

Camdyn Bucchanon had 18 points to lead the Webberville JVs. Karson Lycos joined his teammate in double figures with 14 points. Kaleb Matiyow contributed 6 points. Noah St. Charles scored 4 points. Keegan Branch tossed in 3 points and Trevor Slick-Robinson tallied 2 points.

Both varsity coaches were able to meet with me and give me some information about their players.

Webberville Coach Kayson Lycos gave me the following information about his Spartans. Ryleigh Nelson was last year’s top player. She is tall and extremely good at slashing to the basket for layups, but she is injured and will have to miss tonight’s game.

Jolie Bryan is a fine ball handler and passer who is a threat to score from the three point line. Makayla Culver is a gritty perimeter defender who is able to generate a lot of steals. Payten Sholty is a fine defender and rebounder in the post. Haley Proctor and Lexi Proctor are energetic perimeter defenders.

Perry Coach Lindsay Kadletz provided me with this information about her Ramblers.

Abigail Cochrane is an excellent player on offense and defense. She is a quick, determined perimeter defender and a versatile scorer who can hit the threeball or slash to the basket for layups; she is also a good free throw shooter. Addyson Lampron has a fine basketball IQ and is a strong leader. She runs the point most of the time; she is a tough perimeter defender and a fine ball handler and passer. She is a threat to score on slashes to the basket.

Zenna Leitelt defends, rebounds and scores well in the post. Celina McFarland is a strong perimeter defender who reads opponent’s defenses well; she is great at moving without the ball to find places to score. Hannah Brodberg is a solid post defender and rebounder. Neela Willson is a good perimeter defender and three point shooter who is injured and will not play today.

Ruby Simon comes off the bench and is a strong perimeter defender. She is a versatile scorer who can hit the three ball or slash to the basket. She is also a good ball handler and distributor who helps out at the point. Hazel Stone and Paige Davis give the Ramblers strong defense and solid rebounding in the post.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the aging lenses of an aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to hoop in the ancient times. He showed a bit of promise as a rim protector, but everything fell apart when the basketball powers that be refused to permit him to use his pogo stick during games.

Perry wins the opening tap. Zenna Leitelt drives and hits a layup for the Ramblers. Webberville throws a pass through the lane and out of bounds. Abigail Cochrane gets into the lane and hits a twelve footer off the dribble to give her Ramblers a 4-0 lead.

Webberville misses a ten foot shot from the side. Perry is assessed with an over and back violation. Jolie Bryan dives to save the ball to prevent a Spartan turnover. Addyson Lampron steals the ball for Perry. The Ramblers miss a layup. Webberville throws a pass out of bounds. Addyson Lampron passes to Zenna Leitelt, who hits a layup to give Perry a 6-0 lead.

Abigail Cochrane knocks a Spartan pass out of bounds; Webberville retains possession. Webberville is assessed with an over and back violation. Perry bounces a pass out of bounds. Jaiden Josselyn secures a tough pass in traffic to prevent a Spartan turnover. Makayla Culver passes to Jolie Bryan, who hits a three point shot from the wing to cut the Perry lead to 6-3.

Makayla Culver dives and ties up the ball for Webberville. The Possession Arrow and its Cleaning Committee meet and decide to award the ball to Webberville. The Spartans miss a three point shot from the top of the key. Jaiden Josselyn plays tough defense and forces a Perry traveling violation. Webberville misses a three point shot from the side. Jolie Bryan hits a putback for Webberville to slash the Perry lead to 6-5.

Abigail Cochrane passes to Hannah Brodberg, who hits a layup for Perry. Webberville misses a fast break layup. Abigail Cochrane hits a fast break runner in the lane for Perry. Makayla Culver makes a leaping catch to prevent a Spartan turnover and draws a foul in the process. Ruby Simon knocks a Spartan pass out of bounds; Webberville retains possession. Webberville commits an offensive foul. Zenna Leitelt passes to Addyson Lampron, who hits an eight foot shot from the side for Perry.

Ruby Simon steals the ball and hits a fast break layup for Perry. Jolie Bryan passes to Jaiden Josselyn, who banks in a ten foot shot from the side for Perry as the buzzer sounds.

After one quarter, Perry has a 14-7 lead.

Perry has the ball to open the second quarter. Jolie Bryan steals the ball for the Spartans. Abigail Cochrane ties up the ball for Perry. The Possession Arrow is absorbed with its tea and crumpets; the play is missed and the ball is awarded to Webberville. A Spartan dribbler loses the ball out of bounds. Perry misses a jumper from the free throw line. Hannah Brodberg gets the offensive rebound for the Ramblers. Perry misses a layup. Addyson Lampron gets the offensive rebound Perry misses a jump shot from the side.

Abigail Cochrane blocks a Webberville layup; the Spartans recover the loose ball. The Spartans miss a jump shot from the wing. Lexi Proctor blocks a Rambler layup; the loose ball goes out of bounds and Perry gets another opportunity. Jolie Bryan knocks the ball away from the Ramblers, but Perry recovers.

Webberville misses a fast break layup. Emma Dugan dives to secure the rebound for Perry. Perry travels on a too fast break.

Addyson Lampron dives and ties up the ball for the Ramblers. This time, the Possession Arrow’s supervisor insists that the game be watched; Perry is awarded the ball. Ruby Simon drives and hits a layup to give her Ramblers a 27-7 lead.

Webberville bounces a pass out of bounds. Perry misses a driving banked shot. Hazel Stone gets the offensive rebound for the Ramblers. Perry misses a layup. Webberville misses a half court heave as the halftime buzzer makes its presence known.

At halftime, Perry holds a 27-7 lead. I believe there is an excellent chance the Perry will still have a 27-7 lead at the beginning of the third quarter.

The third quarter is beginning and your Bleacher Denizen is quite proud to have predicted the the quarter would begin with Perry holding a 27-7 lead! Webberville inbounds the ball to get the third quarter underway.

Hannah Brodberg knocks the ball away from the Spartans and Abigail Cochrane picks it up for the Ramblers. Perry misses a twelve footer off the dribble from the baseline. The rebound goes out of bounds and Webberville takes possession. Zenna Leitelt knocks the ball away from the Spartans and Ruby Simon grabs it for the Ramblers. Ruby Simon passes to Abigail Cochrane, who throws in a threeball from the wing to boost the Perry lead to 30-7.

Webberville misfires on a triple try from the wing. Addyson Lampron steals the ball for the Ramblers. Abigail Cochran passes to Ruby Simon, who hits a fast break layup for the Ramblers.
