Tonight, the Shamrocks from Portland St. Patrick are visiting the Fighting Bees from Bath. Each team is entering this game with an 0-1 record. Bath has lost to Napoleon and St. Patrick has lost its game with the Capital Homeschool Athletic Program.

This is actually the second night in a row that I’m in Bath’s gym. Here is last night’s season girls basketball opener between Bath and Fulton for those of you who may not have read it.

St. Patrick Coach Curtis Meyers was generous with his time and his information about his Shamrock players.

Brayden Simon is a tremendous senior athlete who can hit three point shots, handle the ball, rebound well and defend either near the basket or on the perimeter. He is really strong which helps him to dominate opponents. Jerryd Scheurer is a complete and athletic point guard who uses quickness and expert ball handling to get anywhere on the floor he needs to. He is also an energetic perimeter defender who can shoot well from the free throw line or get to the basket.

Charlie Thelen is an excellent scorer who can either hit from the three point line or drive to the basket. He is also a good rebounder who gets his share of putbacks. Gabe Wernet brings energy and enthusiasm to the Shamrock perimeter defense. Aiden Mosser is a willing defender who is able to help either on the perimeter or near the basket.

He is a big strong player, who is a tough rebounder. Remington McCrimmon is a fine scorer and perimeter defender. He can hit the three point shot and is also effective slashing to the basket.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the old glasses of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league. His defense was really helping his team until a referee looked close and found that the Bleacher Denizen had stretched a piano wire across the opposing basket. Alas, without the extra help from the piano wire, it turned out that your Bleacher Denizen’s defense was severely lacking and playing time became quite scarce!

This game is being announced by Bath Sophomore Max McAllister, who is doing a fine job. He did an excellent job throughout the game; he was confident when he needed to announce and knew when to speak and when to let the game play out.
