Tonight, your Bleacher Denizen is headed to Breckenridge where the hometown Huskies will host the Wolverines from Vestaburg. Vestaburg is in second place in the MSAC with a 5-1 record. The Wolverines are 5-2 overall. Breckenridge is in the middle of the pack in the MSAC with a 3-3 conference record; the Huskies are 5-3 overall.

I have seen the Huskies in an earlier game this season. Coach Jeff Ostrander provided me with this background information about his players.

Noah Barr is able to score either on slashes to the basket or on three point shots. Maddax McCaw is a fine ball handler and perimeter defender who runs the point for the Huskies. Zander Mapes rebounds, defends and scores well in the post. Trey Most is a strong post defender and rebounder who gets his share of putback baskets.

Aimon Humm and Blaze Snyder defend the perimeter with energy and aggressiveness. Isaac Bush is a solid post defender and rebounder.

Vestaburg Coach Ty Warczinsky sat with me and provided this information about his Wolverine players.

Brehm Warczinsky is an excellent three point shooter with as much range as just about anyone. He is also a fine ball handler and a tough perimeter defender. Landon Arntz is a post defender and rebounder who scores well in the post, in the midrange and from the three point line. Keegan Beetley has a sweet three point shot. Jansen Scholer is a fine perimeter defender who rebounds well and can score on slashes to the basket.

Jace Janofski is an energetic post defender and quality rebounder. Jayden Hilding is a good post defender and rebounder who is not afraid to stand in and take a charging foul. Kofee Arntz is a good post rebounder and defender who can score near the basket and is a threat from the outside as will.

I made it to the Breckenridge gym in time to see most of the JV game. The Breckenridge JVs got off to a 21-1 halftime lead and get things going in the third quarter as they outscored Vestaburg 21-2 to take a 42-3 lead at the end of the third quarter. Vestaburg actually outscored Breckenridge 4-2 in the fourth quarter to make the final score a 44-7 win for the Breckenridge JVs.

Ethan Walker had 6 points to lead the Vestaburg JVs. Michael Caudill tallied 1 point.

Gavin Corbat and Isaac Bush led the Breckenridge JVs with 13 points each. Carter Suhr supported his teammates with 8 points. Justin Toner scored 4 points. Keegan Suhr, Chase Beard and Jaxton Keller each tallied 2 points.

It is now time to review the results of this game through the occasionally vigorous perspective of an Aging Bleacher Denizen whose career never completely got off the ground; he was never able to escape church league. It seems that he was confused by the concept of only throwing the ball to people wearing the same color shirt as him was difficult to master. In the Bleacher Denizen’s eyes, the creative thing was to include everyone in sharing the ball. However, his coach kept grumping about this concept called “turnovers” and severely slashed your Bleacher Denizen’s playing time.

Blaze Snyder gets his hand on the ball, but Vestaburg is able to recover. The Wolverines miss a three point shot from the side. Brehm Warczinsky steals the ball for the Wolverins. Jansen Scholer passes to Landon Arntz, who is fouled on a layup and hits two free throws to give Vestaburg a 25-12 lead with 1:45 remaining in the second quarter.

Keegan Beetley’s aggressive defense forces a Breckenridge over and back violation. Carter Suhr gets his hand on the ball, but the Wolverines are able to recover. The third quarter is starting. Your Bleacher Denizen had to use a lot of self control to prevent himself by being injured by self-back pats when he saw that the third quarter indeed did open with a 32-12 score!!
