Tonight, your Bleacher Denizen is headed to Dansville. The Dansville Aggies will be hosting the Shamrocks from Portland St. Patrick. St. Patrick enters this game with an 8-4 record while Dansville is still looking for its first win of the season.

I have seen St. Patrick earlier this season; Coach Curtis Meyers provided me with this information about his Shamrock players.

Brayden Simon is a tremendous athlete with the size, quickness, strength and coordination to defend any position well. He can rebound with the best of them. On offense, he handles the ball well and can score on slashes to the basket, putbacks or shots from the three point line. Jerryd Scheurer is a quick and well-coordinated player who is in his third year in the Shamrock playing rotation despite only being in his sophomore year. He is an excellent, persistent perimeter defender who handles the ball well. He is a solid three point shooter and his quickness enables him to attack the basket as well.

Charlie Thelen is an excellent scorer who can drive to the basket, hit putbacks or shoot from the three point line. He is a strong rebounder as well. Brady Leonard is another excellent athlete who defends well anywhere on the floor. He also has a good three point shot. Landon Simpson is a great perimeter defender who also handles the ball well and can make three point shots.

Tyler Thelen is a good post defender and rebounder. Nathan Feers is an extremely energetic perimeter defender who is extremely good defending on the ball. Gabe Wernet is an enthusiastic and aggressive perimeter defender. Aiden Mosser can help with either the perimeter or the post defense.

Dansville Coach Ryan Masters provided me with this information about his Aggie players. Mayson Burgett started for the Aggies as a freshman last year and ran the point. This year, he is the only returning starter and is counted on more for scoring. He is adept either at hitting shots from the three point line or slashing to the basket.

Evan Sykes is a good mid-range shooter, passer, rebounder and post defender. Joey McMillan is a good three point shooter. Kayden Keith and Chris Matyas are solid rebounders and defend well in the post. Austin Hovey is a strong perimeter defender who can score on slashes to the basket.

I was able to get to the JV game in the second quarter. St. Patrick had a 21-16 lead with about four minutes to play in the second quarter. The Shamrocks took over from there as they took a 33-16 halftime lead and won the game by the final score of 58-25.

Kaleb Frost led the Aggie JVs with 8 points. Tucker Jolin and Cavren Gavin each added 5 points. Hunter Greenman put in 4 points and Noah Yang had 3 points.

Aiden Fandel led the Shamrock JVs with 17 points. Isaiah Rockey contributed 13 points and Sean Fedewa chipped in with 12 points. Emmet Fandel scored 10 points. Shame Smith added 4 points and Max Schellberg tallied 2 points.

It is now time to review the results of this game through the somewhat observant eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play ball in the days of yore. He was showing some promise as a passer, but never mastered the art of only throwing the ball to people wearing the same color uniform as himself. Alas, the playing time went away and never came back.

Landon Simpson steals the ball and hits a fast break layup for St. Patrick to trim the Dansville lead to 3-2.

Brady Leonard steals the ball and passes to Charlie Thelen, who is fouled on a fast break layup. Charlie Thelen hits one of his two free throws to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:43 to play in the opening quarter.

Mayson Burgett hits a twelve foot shot off the dribble from the side to cut the St. Patrick lead to 8-7.

Jerryd Scheuer passes to Brayden Simon, who hits a layup to give the Shamrocks a 15-9 lead.

Dansville’s Mayson Burgett led all scorers with 16 points. Chris Matyas and Joey McMillan each scored 3 points and Anderson Karkau tallied 2 points.

Charlie Thelen led the St. Patrick scoring with 15 points. Jerryd Scheurer, Landon Simpson and Brayden Simon each chipped in with 13 points. Tyler Thelen joined his teammates in double figures with 10 points that included St. Patrick’s first dunk in a long time. Brady Leonard had 5 points and Gabe Wernet added 2 points.
