Swan Valley Coach Josh Beougher gave me this information about his Viking players.

Matthew Trevino is a threat from the three point line. Ian Gast is a hustling perimeter defender who can hit the three point shot. Garrett Zwingman is a versatile defender who can cover on the perimeter or in the post. He sets excellent screens and does a lot of important things that don’t show up in the box score. Owen Katz is a tough perimeter defender. Colten Dubay is a fine scorer who can slash to the basket or hit shots from the three point line.

Frankenmuth Coach Andrew Donovan provided this information about his Eagle players.

Cash Tedford is a great athlete who was an All-State football player. He is a tough perimeter defender who has an excellent three point shot. Landon Jacobs defends well in the post or on the perimeter. He is a solid ball handler and passer who runs the point for the Eagles and can hit the three point shot. Caden Sommerfield is a three year varsity player who defends the perimeter well.

Lleyton Hoard was the football quarterback for Frankenmuth. He brings a lot of poise to the Eagle squad. He is also a three year varsity player; he rebounds and defends well in the post. Matthew Schoenow is a junior in his second year on the varsity. He has a high motor and is always hustling. He is a formidable post defender who can block shots; he also can score in the post. K.J. Helms is a point guard who is a fine passer and can score either from the free throw line or on slashes to the basket.

Brady Mort is a strong three point shooter. Jonah Zehnder is a good perimeter defender who can hit shots from the three point line or slash to the basket. Ethan Hubbard cuts well to keep the offense moving and is a good perimeter defender. Brock Rowden is a physical player who defends the post well. Brayden Karwat can help defend either in the post or on the perimeter. Drew Davis is a solid defender and scorer in the post where he gets his share of outback baskets. Grant Womack brings energy to the Eagle post defense. Unfortunately, Sean McGovern is injured and will not play tonight.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who never escaped church league when he attempted to hoop in times past. It seems that he was not able to pick up on the idea that he needed to throw the ball only to people wearing the same color jersey as he was wearing. Your Bleacher Denizen felt that passing the ball only to them infringed on his creativity. The coach was adamant about this concept of preventing turnovers and there was an ego clash. The coach won and the Bleacher Denizen had to be content watching his teammates play most of the time.

Swan Valley wins the opening tap. Landon Jacobs steals the ball for Frankenmuth. Caden Sommerfield drives the baseline and hits a layup for the Eagles. Landon Jacobs steals the ball for the Eagles. Frankenmuth misses a threeball from the corner. The rebound goes out of bounds and Swan Valley gets the ball.

Matthew Schoenow taps the ball to Landon Jacobs, who pulls down the offensive rebound for the Eagles. Frankenmuth misses a threeball from the corner.

Landon Jacobs, who always seems to be around the ball on defense, knocks the ball out of bounds; Swan Valley retains possession. A Viking dribbler loses the ball out of bounds. Frankenmuth misses a three pointer from the side. Cash Tedford steals a Viking pass and scores a fast break layup. He is fouled on the play and makes his free throw. With 1:47 to play in the opening quarter, Frankenmuth has a 9-3 lead.

K.J. Helms steals the ball for the Eagles. Frankenmuth misfires on a triple try from the wing. Jackson Kench passes to Nolan Erlenbeck, who hits a layup for the Vikings. Lleyton Hoard passes to Matthew Schoenow, who does not score a touchdown, but is fouled on a layup and hits one of his two free throws to boost his Eagles to a 10-5 lead with 26.8 seconds to go in the quarter.

Jonah Zehnder ties up the ball for the Eagles. The Possession Arrow loves his hustle and awards the all to the Eagles. Jackson Kench and Nolan Selasky team up to knock the ball away from the Eagles. Neither team is able to secure possession or shoot before the first quarter buzzer decides to make its presence known.

After one quarter, Frankenmuth has a 10-5 lead.

Swan Valley throws the ball in to open the second quarter. Drew Davis steals the ball for Frankenmuth. Frankenmuth is called for traveling. Matthew Schoenow steals the ball for Frankenmuth and draws a foul while he is doing it. Frankenmuth misses a three point shot from the side. Matthew Trevino passes to Nolan Selasky, who hits a three point shot from the side to cut the Frankenmuth lead to 10-8.

Jonah Zehnder passes to K.J. Helms, who hits a three pointer from the side for Frankenmuth. Swan Valley misses a three point shot from the side. Landon Jacobs inbounds the ball to Cash Tedford, who drills a threeball from the corner for the Eagles. Lleyton Hoard steals the ball and passes to Caden Sommerfield, who hits a fast break layup to give Frankenmuth an 18-8 lead.

In a deja vu moment, Lleyton Hoard steals the ball and passes to Caden Sommerfield, who hits a fast break layup for Frankenmuth. (I sure hope that I am not being metaphysicially transforted into the movie “Groundhog Day.) Lleyton Hoard ignores the Bleacher Denizen’s angst and steals the ball for the Eagles again. However, this time, Frankenmuth misses the fast break layup (which I hope means that we will stay in real life instead of “Groundhog Day.”)

The rebound goes out of bounds and Frankenmuth gets the ball back. Caden Sommerfield knocks the rebound off a Viking player to secure another Eagle possession. Landon Jacobs takes time away from his defensive domination and hits a three point shot from the corner to give Frankenmuth a 23-8 lead.
