Concord at Pittsford – – Girls Basketball – – The Bleacher Denizen – – January 24, 2026 – – by Chuck Krafft

This morning, the BleacherDenizenMobile is headed to Pittsford High School where the hometown Wildcats will host the Yellowjackets from Concord. The Wildcats enter this game with a 6-6 record. The Yellowjackets are at 10-1.

Concord made the final four last year and played at the Breslin Center. Here are the play by play articles of those games.

Coach Christopher Barrett provided me with this background information about his Yellowjacket players.

CeCe Barrett and Bradie Lehman are returning starters from last year’s Yellowjacket semifinalists. Both of them can play either guard position. They are both quick, determined perimeter defenders who generate a lot of steals and turnovers. Both of them see the floor well and are excellent ball handlers and passers. Both of them can hit the three point shot or drive to the basket to score. Also, Bradie Lehman is the top rebounder for the Yellowjackets and CeCe Barrett is second in rebounding. These ladies put the “C” in “Complete Player!!”

Haley Stimer is also a returning starter from last season. She is a strong perimeter defender who frequently guards the opponent’s best offensive player. Avery Arbuckle and Braelynn Thorrez hold down the post for the Yellowjackets. Both of them are tough defenders and rebounders who can score in the paint.

Pittsford Coach Chris Hodos provided this information about his Wildcat players.

Lexie Bryner plays in the post where she is a solid scorer and a good rebounder. Laura Lemar is a senior captain who defends well in the Pittsford press, is a good scorer near the basket, and is arebounder. Tania Williams runs the point where she is a solid ball handler and passer who also is tough in the Wildcat press and is a capable scorer. Karmin Butler is a strong outside shooter. Brielle Clark is a tough defender who is formidable in the press.

I got to the gym in time to see the end of the third quarter when Pittsford scored a layup to take a 31-29 lead. The first five minutes of the fourth quarter were a back and forth affair. Concord’s JVs were within one point at 36-35 when Pittsford’s Raelynn Sawyer hit one three point shot and Alivia Hoover hit two to put Pittsford on top 45-35.

The only Concord score the rest of the way was a layup by Rachel Rundle with about 20 seconds left. Pittsford won the JV game by the final score of 50-37.

Mya Barrett led the Concord JVs with 20 points. Audrey Rinehart and Jessica Clouser each contributed 4 points. Delaney Colburn, Emily Smith, Rachel Rundle and Audrey Pyle each scored 2 points. Gabby Herzberg tallied 1 point.

Alivia Hoover led the victorious Pittsford JVs with 16 points. Ellie Bump and Raelynn Sawyer each contributed 11 points. Allie Betzer scored 6 points. Ivy Fry added 4 points and Rayne Carpenter put in 2 points.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the hopefully clear lenses of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he tried to hoop in the ancient times when he was considered to be “young.” It seems that the Bleacher Denizen felt that his coach’s insistence that he stay between his man and the basket on defense stifled his creativity. When he tried one time too many by defending his man be standing on the midcourt line, the coach tired of his man scoring layups and started playing others who did not bring creativity to their defense.

Concord wins the opening tap. The Yellowjackets miss a threeball from the wing. Pittsford misses a threeball near the top of the key. Bradie Lehman hits a three point shot from the wing to give the Yellowjackets the first three points of the game. Pittsford throws a pass out of bounds. Avery Arbuckle passes to Haley Stimer, who hits a fifteen foot shot from the side to give Concord a 5-0 lead.

Tania Williams passes to Lexie Bryner, who hits a layup for Pittsford. Lexie Bryner blocks a Concord layup. The loose ball goes out of bounds and the Yellowjackets get another opportunity. Lexie Bryner steals a Concord pass. Laura Lemar is fouled on a driving layup and hits one of her two free throws to cut the Concord lead to 5-3 with 5:50 remaining in the opening quarter.

Lexie Bryner pulls down the offensive rebound from the missed free throw for the Wildcats. Pittsford misses a layup. Concord misses a fifteen foot shot from the side. Avery Arbuckle grabs the offensive rebound for the Yellowjackets. Concord misses a layup. Pittsford misses a ten foot shot from the baseline. Bradie Lehman passes to Cece Barrett, who throws in a threeball from the wing to boost the Concord lead to 8-3.

Concord’s press causes Pittsford to turn the ball over. The Yellowjackets miss a threeball from the wing, but get the offensive rebound. Cece Barrett is fouled on a six foot shot from the side of the lane and hits two free throws for Concord. Lexie Bryner is fouled on a layup and hits one of her two free throws to trim the Concord lead to 10-4 with 4:29 remaining in the first quarter.

Pittsford’s Madison Pickford knocks a pass out of bounds; Concord retains possession. Bradie Lehman passes to a Yellowjacket teammate who is fouled on a layup, but misses her free throws. Bradie Lehman steals the ball, is fouled on a layup and hits two free throws for Concord. Pittsford misses a threeball from the wing. Haley Stimer hits a fast break layup for Concord. Haley Stimer knocks the ball away from Pittsford and Ahvi’Ana Pearson grabs it for Concord. Cece Barrett sinks a threeball from the side to give Concord a 17-4 lead.

Bradie Lehman steals the ball for the Yellowjackets. Concord misses a layup. Pittsford misses a six foot shot in the lane. Lexie Bryner blocks a Concord layup; the loose ball goes out of bounds and the Yellowjackets get another opportunity. Concord misses a driving layup. Ahvi’Ana Pearson gets the offensive rebound for the Yellowjackets. Laura Lemar steals the ball for the Wildcats. Lexie Bryner is fouled on a six foot shot from the side of the lane and hits one of her two free throws. With 1:43 remaining in the first quarter, Concord has a 17-4 lead.

Karmin Butler grabs the offensive rebound of the missed free throw for the Wildcats. Pittsford misses a layup. Cece Barrett hits a fast break layup for Concord. Pittsford misses a threeball from the side. Concord beats the Pittsford press, but a dribbler loses the ball out of bounds. Lexie Bryner passes to Laura Lemar, who hits a layup for Pittsford to shave the Concord lead to 19-6.

The Possession Arrow looks up from its paint by numbers kit, and decides to award the ball to Pittsford. The Wildcats fumble a pass out of bounds. Laura Lemar knocks the ball away from Concord and Lexie Bryner picks it up for Pittsford. Bradie Lehman steals the ball for Concord and passes to Cece Barrett, who hits a fast break layup. Pittsford misses a threeball from the wing as the first quarter buzzer elects to end the period.

After one quarter, Concord has a 23-6 lead.

Concord inbounds the ball to start the second quarter. Brielle Clark blocks a Concord layup. The loose ball goes out of bounds and the Yellowjackets get another opportunity. Brielle Clark gets her hand on the ball. Concord recovers briefly, but then turns the ball over. Pittsford bounces a pass out of bounds. Concord misses a layup. Braelynn Thorrez is fouled on a putback and hits one of her two free throws to give Concord a 24-6 lead with 7:00 remaining in the second quarter.

Pittsford commits an offensive foul. Concord misses a threeball near the top of the key. Haley Stimer knocks the ball away from Pittsford and Bradie Lehman picks it up for Concord. The Yellowjackets miss a fast break layup. Cece Barrett steals the ball for Concord and hits a fast break layup to give her Yellowjackets a 26-6 lead.

The Possession Arrow is cleaning up the wrong color on a space on its paint by number pattern and misses the play. The ball is awarded to the Yellowjackets. Bradie Lehman inbounds the ball to a Yellowjacket who is fouled on a threeball from the side, but misses all three of her free throws. Bradie Lehman knocks the ball away from Pittsford and Braelynn Thorrez picks it up for Concord. Bradie Lehman hits a fast break layup and hits her free throw to give Concord a 33-6 lead with 2:56 remaining in the opening half.

Madison Pickford passes to Alivia Hoover, who takes one dribble and hits a fifteen foot shot from the side for Pittsford. Pittsford’s Ellie Bump gets her hand on the ball and Concord loses it out of bounds. Haley Stimer gets her hand on the ball, but Pittsford is able to recover. Pittsford is whistled for a three seconds (in the lane) violation. Alivia Hoover steals a Yellowjacket pass. Braelynn Thorrez steals the ball and hits a fast break layup to boost Concord to a 35-8 lead.

Madison Pickford passes to Karmin Butler, who hits a three point shot from the side for Pittsford. Concord misfires on a triple try from the side. Braelynn Thorrez gets the offensive rebound for the Yellowjackets. Concord misses a layup. Braelynn Thorrez is fouled on a putback and hits one of her two free throws to give Concord a 36-11 lead with 41.9 seconds left on the first half clock.

Mya Barrett steals the ball for the Yellowjackets. Concord is whistled for a traveling violation. Pittsford misses a three point shot from the wing. Concord rebounds the ball but does not have time to shoot before the halftime buzzer declares that it is time for a break.

Your Bleacher Denizen nearly injures himself when the third quarter starts and he sees that he has ACCURATELY predicted the opening score for the third quarter and Concord still leads 36-11. Several other spectators grab the Bleacher Denizen before he permanently dislocates his shoulder trying to pat himself on the back. Concord ignores the Bleacher Denizen’s ego surge and inbounds the ball to open quarter number three.

Lexie Bryner knocks the ball away from Concord and Laura Lemar picks it up for Pittsford. Cece Barrett ties up the ball for Concord. The Possession Arrow is trying to find a dab of light blue paint for the eyes in its picture and misses the play; the ball is awarded back to Pittsford. Haley Stimer knocks the ball away from Pittsford and Cece Barrett picks it up for Concord. Concord misses a driving layup. Pittsford misses a layup. Bradie Lehman drives the lane and dishes the ball to Cece Barrett, who hits a threeball from the side to give Concord a 39-11 lead.

Lexie Bryner is fouled on a six foot banked shot from the side and hits one of her two free throws for Pittsford. Concord misses a threeball from the wing. Karmin Butler and Lexie Bryner double team Concord and tie up the ball. The Possession Arrow is trying to clean black paint off its hands and misses the play; the ball is awarded back to Concord.

Brielle Clark knocks the ball away from Concord, but the Yellowjackets recover. Laura Lemar steals a Concord pass. Pittsford misses an eighteen foot shot from the top of the key. Brielle Clark steals the ball and hits a fast break layup for Pittsford. Tania Williams taps the ball away from Concord and Karmin Butler picks it up for Pittsford. The Wildcats miss a layup. Brielle Clark hits a putback to trim the Concord lead to 53-26.
