Today, your Bleacher Denizen is back at Frankenmuth High School. Your Bleacher Denizen covered the Goodrich Martians game at Frankenmuth last night. Here is the play by play of that game.

Tonight, I will be covering the Goodrich Martian boys as they play the undefeated Frankenmuth Eagles, who are undefeated with a 17-0 record. The Martians are also having a good game as they enter the game with a 13-5 record.

I have covered the Eagle Boys earlier this season. Coach Andrew Donovan provided me with this information about his Eagle players.

Cash Tedford is an All-State Football player who brings great athletic ability to the Frankenmuth perimeter defense. He is also an excellent three point shooter. Landon Jacobs is a versatile defender who can cover Eagle opponents on the perimeter or in the post. He runs the point for the Eagles. He is a good ball handler and passer who is a threat from the three point line. Caden Sommerfeld is a three year varsity player who causes a lot of turnovers in the Eagle perimeter defense.

Lleyton Hoard was the quarterback for this year’s Eagle football team. He brings a lot of poise and leadership to the Eagles. He is a tall guy who brings tough defense and strong rebounding to the Eagle post. Matthew Schoenow is a junior who is in his second year of varsity basketball. He brings a lot of hustle to the Eagle defense where he is formidable in the post and blocks a lot of shots. K.J. Helms is a point guard who passes well and can score either from the three point line or on slashes to the basket.

Brady Mort brings an accurate three point shot to the Eagles. Jonah Zehnder is a solid perimeter defender who can hit the three point shot or slash to the basket. Ethan Hubbard cuts well to keep the offense moving and is a strong perimeter defender. Brock Rowden is physical in the post and defends well. Brayden Karwat is versatile and can defend the perimeter or the post.

Drew Davis is a strong defender and rebounder in the post. He gets his share of putback baskets. Grant Womack is an energetic post defender. Sean McGovern is injured and will not play this season.

Goodrich Coach Gary Barns provided me with this information about his Martian players.

Jenson LePla is a 6’6″ junior player who has started on the Goodrich varsity since he was a freshman. That year, he ran the point for the Martians. He is quick enough to defend the perimeter and tall enough to cover the post. He is a versatile offensive player who can dribble pass, drive to the basket or hit the three point shot.

Isaac Valley runs the point for this year’s Martians. He starred for the excellent Goodrich football team and brings a lot of strength, quickness and athletic ability to the Goodrich perimeter defense. He can also defend the post. He is a good ball handler and passer who can score on slashes to the basket. Jakoby Lagat is a quick, strong, athletic perimeter defender.

Miles Washington is a burly post player who also starred in football and is a team leader. He is a tough rebounder and defender in the post. He can score in the post and is a threat from the three point line. Dominic Melaragni is a big guy who defends and rebounds in the post. Drew Aagesen is a versatile defender who can cover people in the post or on the perimeter. Colt Maynard is a good three point shooter.

I got to the Frankenmuth gym just as the freshman game was ending. The Eagles won that game 58-50.

Jacob Heier, Jr. led the Goodrich freshmen with 21 points. Nolan Hanks joined his teammate in double figures with 15 points. Evan Schanick contributed 7 points. J.J. Mahaffy totaled 5 points. Kruze Krafcik added 2 points.

Nolan Joyce led the victorious Frankenmuth freshmen with 23 points. Blake Smith supported his teammate with 16 points. Lke Stapleton chipped in with 6 points. Thomas Greenwood tossed in 4 points. Oliver Cramer scored 3 points. Chase Cable, Jet Clark and Elijah Ridley each tallied 2 points.

Goodrich got off to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter of the JV game. The teams played to a 9-9 second quarter tie and Goodrich had a 25-17 halftime lead. Goodrich outscored Frankenmuth 15-5 in the third quarter and 21-17 in the fourth quarter; they won by the final score of 61-39.

Max Helms led the Frankenmuth JVs with 15 points. Judah Ridley contributed 9 points. Brock Raymond added 7 points. Carter Hecht scored 5 points. Will McCubbin put in 2 points and Dierk Wascher had 1 points.

Brayden Mitchell led the victorious Martian JVs with 16 points. Chase Johnson joined his teammate in double figures with 10 points. Ty Eickhoff contributed 9 points. Colson Smith scored 6 points. Adam Wheeler, Uriah Thompson and Jacob Daggett each tossed in 4 points. Walker Cox and Braden Brown each added 3 points. Nolan Hanks put up 2 points.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the somewhat alert eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play ball in the days of yore when many considered him to be “young.” He was developing a reputation as a great shot blocker when the Basketball Powers the be decided that the pogo stick he used to elevate was no longer allowed. As the opponent’s post scoring against the Bleacher Denizen went up, his playing time went down.

Frankenmuth wins the opening tap. The Eagles misfire on a triple try from the corner. Lleyton Hoard steals the ball for the Eagles. Frankenmuth misses a threeball from the corner. Goodrich misses a ten foot shot from the side of the lane. Frankenmuth misses a three pointer from the wing. Lleyton Hoard grabs the offensive rebound for the Eagles. Caden Sommerfield drives and hits a layup to give Frankenmuth a 2-0 lead.

Matthew Schoenow steals a Martian pass. Caden Sommerfield passes to Cash Tedford, who hits a three pointer from the wing for Frankenmuth. Goodrich misses a six foot banked shot off the dribble. Frankenmuth misses a fast break layup. A fumbled Goodrich pass leads to a traveling violation. Frankenmuth throws a pass out of bounds. Lleyton Hoard steals a Goodrich pass and passes to Cash Tedford, who is fouled on a layup and hits two free throws to give Frankenmuth a 7-0 lead with 5:26 remaining in the opening period.

Landon Jacobs passes to Matthew Schoenow, who hits a fast break layup for Frankenmuth. Brice Edmonds passes to Jensen LePla, who fakes, takes one dribble and throws in a threeball from the side for Goodrich to trim the Frankenmuth lead to 19-5.

Jensen LePla knocks the ball out of bounds; Frankenmuth retains possession. Jensen LePla steals the ball for the Martians. Caden Sommerfield steals the ball for the Eagles. Frankenmuth misses a three pointer from the corner. Caden Sommerfield hits a putback to push Frankenmuth to a 21-5 lead.

Miles Washington passes to Brice Edmonds, who hits a three pointer from the corner for Goodrich. Frankenmuth misses a three point shot from the corner. Frankenmuth ignores the Bleacher Denizen’s semantic musings, misses a three pointer from the side and fouls on the rebound.

As the third quarter begins, your Bleacher Denizen realizes that his foreshadowing was successful and he DID successfully predict the score at the beginning of the third quarter, which is Frankenmuth 27 Goodrich 11.

As the Bleacher Denizen twists himself into a pretzel shape while trying to pat himself on the back, several other spectators intervene to prevent him from pulling every muscle in his upper body.

Frankenmuth ignores the Bleacher Denizen’s attempts at self-congratulation and tosses the ball inbounds to open quarter number three. Landon Jacobs passes to Cash Tedford, who hits a three point shot from the corner for the Eagles. Lleyton Hoard steals a Martian pass. Jakoby Lagat knocks the ball away from Frankenmuth and Jensen LePla picks it up for Goodrich. Isaac Valley hits a fast break layup to trim the Eagle lead to 30-13.
