Today, the football season is beginning and it is time for your Bleacher Denizen to come out of hibernation to visit Dansville High to blog the hometown Aggies game with the visiting Fulton Pirates. He was hoping for a choir of angels to serenade him as he got into the car to head to the game, but I guess the angels may have been on strike.

As this is the first game of the season, your Bleacher Denizen hopes it is reasonable to assume that both teams are entering this game with a 0-0 record.

Let us now take a look at this game through the occasional eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who never had much of a football career. He was showing some promise as a field goal kick blocker, but the Football Powers that Be ruined everything when they ruled he was no longer allowed to use his pogo stick to help defend against field goal and extra point kicks.

The Aggie Band did a nice job on the Dansville fight song and the National Anthem to get things started. Dansville won the coin toss and elected to defer their decision to the second half. Dansville will kick off to open the first quarter and receive the kickoff to start the second half.

Mayson Burgett kicked off for Dansville; his boot went out of bounds at the Fulton 35 yard line and the Pirates started their first possession there.

Zach Litwiller took the ball to the right for a three year first down gain. Cameron Diana went through the middle and gained seven yards to earn a first down before James St. Amant tackled him.

On the next play, Lucas Podolak took the ball up the left side for an apparent long touchdown, but alas, a penalty negated the play. After the penalty was assessed, Fulton had a first down with sixteen yards to go on its own 39 yard line. Zach Litwiller had to escape the pocked on the first down replay and gained two yards before Cavren Gavin tackled him. Zach Litwiller ran up the right tackle on second down and gained four years before Kane Romano stopped him. Lucas Podolak went around the left end for a sixteen yard third down gain and earned a first down before Mayson Burgett stopped him.

Lucas Podolak gained twelve yards and earned another first down before Hunter Greenman halted him.

On the next play, Lucas Podolak went to the right for another eleven yards and another first down at the Dansville 16 yard line before Kane Romano took him down.

Zach Litwiller went to the left to gain four yards on first down before he was forced out of bounds. Lucas Podolak gained one yard on a second down to the left; Owen Metter and Kane Romano teamed up for the tackle. On the next play, Zach Litwiller passed to Cameron Diana for an eleven yard touchdown.

Evan Sykes and James St. Amant teamed up to stop the Fulton extra point run. With 7:02 to play in the opening quarter, Fulton had a 6-0 lead.

Eli Coblentz kicked the ball off to the Dansville 18 yard line where it went out of bounds. The Aggies started their series on their own 35 yard line.

Fulton stopped Dansville’s first down run to the right for a one yard gain. Mayson Burgett took the ball around the left end for a seven yard second down gain before Cameron Diana and Lucas Podolak pulled him down. On the next play, Mayson Burgett went to the left, cut through the right and beat everyone to the end zone for a fifty-seven yard touchdown.

Kane Romano plowed through the line to earn the two point conversion for the Aggies.

With 5:16 remaining in the first quarter, Dansville took an 8-6 lead.

Mayson Burgett kicked the ball off to the Fulton 11 yard line. Cameron Diana fielded the kickoff and gained 26 yards before Hunter Greenman stopped him. Fulton began its series on its own 37 yard line.

Owen Metter covered on the Pirates’ incomplete first down pass. Lucas Podolak took the ball to the left for a five yard second down gain; Chris Matyas made the stop for the Aggies. Zach Litwiller went to the left and gained three yards on third down before Evan Sykes forced him out of bounds. On fourth down, Evan Sykes got into the Pirate backfield and forced a five yard loss.

Dansville took over the ball on downs on Fulton’s 40 yard line.

Zach Litwiller knocked the Dansville first down pass out of the sky. A delay of game penalty pushed Dansville back five yards. Fulton’s line stopped Dansville’s second down run to the right for no gain. A false start penalty cost Dansville five more yards. A timely hit by Lucas Podolak caused the Dansville third down pass to fall incomplete. On fourth down, Mayson Burgett punted the ball to about the Fulton 15 yard line where Jacob Alexander fielded it and gained about twelve yards before he slipped.

Fulton started its series on its own 27 yard line.

Zach Litwiller was forced out of the pocket on first down, but gained four yards before Evan Sykes forced him out of bounds. Lucas Podolak went to the middle to gain three yards on second down; Chris Matyas and Kane Romano teamed up to stop him. ON third down, Cameron Diana gained three yards before he ran into Chris Matyas. Lucas Podolak gained twenty-eight yards up the right sideline on fourth down before Mayson Burgett stopped him. This gave Fulton a first down on the Dansville 35 yard line.

That was the final play of the first quarter. Dansville had an 8-6 lead. Fulton had a first down on the Dansville 35 yard line.

Lucas Podolak gained six yards on a first down run to the left before Chris Matyas forced him out of bounds. Owen Metter stopped Fulton’s second down run for no gain. Evan Sykes got into the Pirate backfield and stopped the third down run for a three yard loss. Hunter Greenman covered on Fulton’s incomplete fourth down pass.

Dansville took over the ball on downs on its own 31 yard line.

Cole McCormick and Jacob Alexander teamed up to stop Dansville’s first down run for a one yard gain. An offside penalty on the Pirates gave the Aggies five yards. On the second down replay, Mayson Burgett nearly completed a long pass to Hunter Greenman, who made a valiant diving effort, but could not hold the ball. Lucas Short covered on the play for the Pirates. Kane Romano went up the right tackle for an eight yard fourth down gain to earn a first down for the Aggies. Lucas Podolak made the tackle for Fulton.

Cameron Diana covered on Dansville’s first down incomplete pass over the middle. On the next play, Mayson Burgett, with the help of a fine block by Owen Metter made a fifty-five yard touchdown run to the right. Owen Metter ran the ball in for a successful point after attempt. With 7:51 remaining in the second quarter, Dansville had a 16-6 lead.

Mayson Burgett’s kickoff went out of bounds at the Fulton 40 yard line; the Pirates started their next series there.

Evan Sykes and Kane Romano burst into the Pirate backfield to stop the first down run for a three yard loss. A fumbled snap led to a broken play and a three yard second down loss for the Pirates. James St. Amant chased the Fulton ball carrier out of bounds. Pressure from James St. Amant forced Fulton to throw an incomplete third down pass. Jennings Burley’s fourth down punt was downed by Eli Coblentz at the Dansville 31 yard line.

Mayson Burgett passed to Hunter Greenman, who gained thirty yards before he was forced out of bounds by Lucas Podolak. A roughing the passer penalty resulted in a Dansville first down at the Dansville 46 yard line.

Zander Gaskill got into the Aggie backfield and forced a four yard first down loss. Mayson Burgett gained eighteen yards on a second down run to the right before Rogan Marsden forced him out of bounds. Dansville had a first down on the Fulton 40 yard line.

Mayson Burgett was forced out of the pocket; he broke several tackles and forced his way to an eight yard first down gain before Lucas Podolak and Jacob Alexander teamed up to stop him. Mayson Burgett passed to Hunter Greenman for a six yard second down gain to earn another first down.

On the next play, Mayson Burgett passed to Evan Sykes for a twenty-six yard touchdown. The point after play appeared to be foiled by Fulton, but Dansville refused to give up. Before he was tackled, Kane Romano lateraled the ball to Mayson Burgett, who found Cash Clark wide open in the end zone and completed the pass for two Aggie points. With 3:59 remaining in the opening half, Dansville’s lead was at 24-6.

Mayson Burgett booted his kickoff to about the Fulton 25 yard line; the Pirates fumbled the ball, but recovered. Fulton had a first down on its own 32 yard line.

Chris Matyas stopped Fulton’s first down run for a two yard loss. Zach Litwiller took the ball to the right and gained ten yards on second down before Chris Matyas forced him out of bounds. Zach Litwiller gained two yards on third down to earn a first down for his Pirates. Cavren Gavin made the tackle for the Aggies.

On the next play, Mayson Burgett intercepted the ball near midfield and ran for a fifty yard touchdown. A delay of game penalty forced Dansville to attempt its extra point play from the seven yard line. Zach Litwiller intercepted the Dansville point after pass to foil the attempt. With 1:56 remaining in the second quarter, Dansville had a 30-6 lead.

Because its kickoff went out of bounds, the Aggies had to rekick. Mayson Burgett blasted his kickoff into the Fulton end zone and the Pirates took over on their own 20 yard line.

Lucas Podolak went to the right for a nine yard first down gain; Cavren Gavin and Kane Romano teamed up for the Aggie tackle. Lucas Podolak gained five second down yards before Chris Matyas took him down to give Fulton a first down on their own 34 yard line.

Owen Metter covered on Fulton’s incomplete first down pass. Hunter Greenman stopped the Pirate second down run for a one yard gain. James St. Amant and Owen Metter teamed up to pressure Fulton into throwing an incomplete third down pass. Jennings Burley punted for Fulton on fourth down. The ball went out of bounds on the Dansville 45 yard line; the Aggies started their next series there with just 23.3 seconds remaining in the first half.

After Lucas Podolak covered on Dansville’s incomplete first down pass, the Aggies took a knee on second down.

The first half ended with Dansville holding a 30-6 lead. If football conventions hold up, Dansville will also lead 30-6 when the second half starts.

The Dansville band led by Kim McNabb put on a nice two-song halftime show. Drum Major Felicity Ferrier conducted the band on “2 Be Loved” by Lizzo. Drum Major Emileigh Crockett led the band on its second song, “Fireball” by Pit Bull. I enjoyed watching the band; I thought they did an excellent job on their first performance of the 2026 season!!

Eli Coblentz kicked off for Fulton to open the second half. Dansville had an excellent return, but Kenton Taylor-Zarka caught the kick returner from behind and forced a fumble that the Pirates recovered. Fulton had a first down on its own 17 yard line.

Zach Litwiller took the ball to the right and gained four yards on first down before Chris Matyas pushed him out of bounds. Hunter Greenman and Evan Sykes teamed up to force a two yard loss on Fulton’s second down pitch to the left. Cameron Diana went to the right for a three yard third down gain; Chris Matyas made the Aggie tackle. Jennings Burley punted for Fulton on fourth down. Cameron Gavin fielded the ball on the Aggie 12 yard line and gained ten yards before Cameron Diana, Jennings Burley and Nolan Kirkpatrick teamed up to stop him.

After a penalty was assessed on Fulton, Dansville had a first down on its own 37 yard line.

Mayson Burgett completed a five yard first down screen pass to Cavren Gavin for a five yard gain. Cole McCormick made the tackle for Fulton. Jacob Alexander got a hand on Dansville’s second down pass to force an incompletion. Nolan Kirkpatrick covered on Dansville’s incomplete third down pass. Mayson Burgett punted on fourth down. After a penalty was assessed on the Pirates, Fulton began its next series on its own 12 yard line.

Lucas Podolak took the ball to the right for a nine yard first down gain. Hunter Greenman made a hard tackle on Fulton’s second down pitch play to stop it for no gain. Lucas Podolak ran for four yards on third down before Chris Matyas tackled him to earn a first down for the Pirates.

Chris Matyas covered on Fulton’s incomplete first down pass. A bad second down snap led to a broken play and an incomplete pass. Fulton gained nearly ten yards on its third down run, but Gary Ewing III forced a fumble with a hard tackle. After a penalty was assessed on Fulton, Dansville had a first down on the Pirate 15 yard line.

Ricki Dutton stopped Dansville’s first down run up the middle for no gain. On the next play, Mayson Burgett completed a fifteen yard touchdown pass to Cash Clark. Fulton stopped the Aggie PAT run. With 4:29 remaining in the third quarter, Dansville held a 36-6 lead.

Cullen Carls kicked off for Dansville. Jacob Alexander fielded the kickoff around the twenty yard line and returned it about fifteen yards. Fulton had a first down on its own 35 yard line.

Hunter Greenman knocked Fulton’s first down pass out of the sky and then covered on the Pirate incomplete second down pass. Tyler McDonald ran a nice third down reverse play to the right and gained six yard before Chris Matyas stopped him. Jennings Burley punted for Fulton on fourth down; Cavren Gavin fielded the punt at the Aggie 30 yard line and gained twelve yards. A penalty against the Aggies moved the ball back to their own 27 yard line where they started their next series.

Kane Romano gained five yards on a first down run; Cole McCormick made the tackle for Fulton. Mayson Burgett gained fourteen yards on his second down run before Ricki Dutton made the tackle. A penalty on the Pirates gave Dansville a first down on Fulton’s 32 yard line.

Mayson Burgett started to the left and made a fine cut to the right on his way to a twenty-eight yard gain; Cole McCormick made the tackle to prevent an Aggie touchdown. Dansville had a first down on the Pirate four yard line.

Dansville had a broken play on first down; Mayson Burgett alertly prevented a turnover, but Dansville lost five yards on the play. A delay of game penalty pushed Dansville back another five yards. On the next play, Mayson Burgett lofted a fourteen yard touchdown pass to Hunter Greenman. The Aggie Point After attempt was no good. With 43.3 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Dansville had a 42-6 lead.

Dansville kicked the ball off to the Fulton 30 yard line; unfortunately, your Aging Bleacher Denizen managed not to record the Pirate player who made a fine nineteen yard return in his notes. My apologies to the Mystery Pirate.

The third quarter ended with Dansville holding a 42-6 lead. Fulton had a first down on its own 49 yard line.

Lucas Podolak gained eight yards on a first down run to the right before Hunter Greenman stopped him. Lucas Podolak gained thirteen yards on a run up the middle before Gary Ewing III took him down. Fulton had a first down on the Dansville 30 yard line.

Cameron Diana reacted quickly to prevent a bad first down snap from becoming a Pirate turnover; Fulton lost ten yards on the play. A hard hit from Hunter Greenman stopped Fulton’s second down run for no gain. Cameron Diana gained six yards on a third down run up the middle before he ran into Kane Romano. Nolan Kirkpatrick gained four yards on his fourth down run up the middle; Chris Matyas made the stop for Dansville. Fulton was short of a first down; Dansville took over the ball on the Fulton 30 yard line.

A holding penalty negated a nice first down run for the Aggies and pushed Dansville back 9 yards. On the first down replay, Cole McCormick stopped the Aggie run for no gain. Mayson Burgett gained three yards on a second down run to the right. Jacob Alexander made the tackle for Fulton. Jacob Alexander covered on Dansville’s long, but incomplete third down pass. Mayson Burgett punted for Dansville on fourth down; Gary Ewing III downed the ball.

Because there were penalties on both teams, Fulton started its next possession on its own 21 yard line.

Chris Matyas recovered a fumble for Dansville on Fulton’s next play. Dansville had the ball on the Fulton 15 yard line.

Kane Romano ran up the middle for a fifteen yard Aggie touchdown. Dansville took a knee on its extra point attempt. With 2:02 left in the game, Dansville’s lead was at 48-6.

Cullen Carls’ kickoff went out of bounds. Fulton took over the ball on its own 45 yard line. Chris Matyas, Jackson Pratt and Kane Romano teamed up to stop Fulton’s first down run by Lucas Podolak for a two yard gain. On the final play of the game, Lucas Podolak gained two yards before Cullen Carls tackled him.

Dansville won this game by the final score of 48-6.
