This afternoon, your Bleacher Denizen is heading to Dansville to watch a Baseball Doubleheader between the Waverly Warriors and the Dansville Aggies. It is now time to record the events of this game from the eager perspective of an Aging Bleacher Denizen whose pitching career was sadly derailed when the powers that be refused to allow him to use a bazooka when he pitched.

Dansville Pitcher Nathan Sherwood retired the first two Warrior hitters on a popup to second base and a grounder to third base. Iggy Arroyo was hit by a pitch. Iggy Arroyo stole second base and third base. Waverly made its third out on a grounder to the shortstop.

Gunner Pappas set down the three Aggie first inning batters on a fly to right field and two strikeouts.

A. J. Robinson singled to left field to open the top of the second inning and went to second base on a passed ball. Dansville Pitcher Nathan Sherwood retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a popup to shortstop. R.J. Garcia singled to deep shortstop to drive in A.J. Robinson and took second base on a throwing error. Waverly made its third out on a fly to left field.

Waverly scored one run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Waverly Pitcher Gunner Pappas retired the first two Dansville batters in the bottom of the second inning on a strikeout and a grounder to third base. Dylan Ream singled to left field. Dansville made its third out on a bouncer to first base.

Dansville made a number of defensive changes. Cody Ream moved to catcher. Dylan Ream moved to shortstop. Quentin Mayes went to third base. Shane Broughton went out to right field. Austin Hovey went to second base.

Waverly’s Moises Lerma singled to right field to lead off the top of the third inning. Dansville Catcher Cody Ream fired a strike to second base to catch the runner stealing. Jackson Gomez singled to center field and took second base on a single by Iggy Arroyo. Waverly made the second out of the inning on a fly to right field. Nathan Sherwood struck out the next batter for the third out and held Waverly scoreless for the inning.

Waverly Pitcher Gunner Pappas struck out all three Aggie batters in the bottom of the third inning.

Mark Morrison walked to lead off the top of the fourth inning for Waverly. After the next batter was out on a fly to center field, Mark Morrison took second base on R.J. Garcia’s ground out to first base. Marquise Moore walked. Nathan Sherwood struck out the next Warrior hitter to end the inning.

Gunner Pappas struck out the Dansville leadoff batter in the bottom of the fourth inning. Cody Ream rapped a sharp ground single to left field. Waverly Catcher Moises Lerma threw out the runner stealing second base. The Aggies made their third out on a bouncer to first base.

After four full innings, Waverly had a 1-0 lead.

Jackson Gomez lined a single to left field to lead off the top of the fifth inning for the Warriors and moved to Iggy Arroyo walked. Nathan Sherwood got the next hitter to ground into a double play started by Shortstop Dylan Ream, who relayed the ball to Second Baseman Austin Hovey Mayes who threw to First Baseman Jack Thayer to complete the double play. Jackson Gomez advanced to third base. Waverly’s next batter was out on a fly to right field. Waverly was not able to score in the top of the fifth inning.

Wyatt Mosley boomed a triple to the right-center field fence to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for Dansville. Dylan Ream singled to left field to drive Wyatt Mosley home. Dylan Ream stole second base as Gunner Pappas struck out the next Aggie hitter. Gunner Pappas struck out the succeeding Dansville batter. Dylan Ream scored when Quentin Mayes ripped a couple down the right field line. Quentin Mayes took third base on a wild pitch.

Shane Broughton drew a walk and stole second base. Shane Broughton took third base and Quentin Mayes scored on a wild pitch. Zachary Sykes walked. Shane Broughton scored and Zachary Sykes advanced to second base on a balk. Gunner Pappas retired the next batter on a fly to left field for the final Aggie out.

Dansville scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Shane Broughton moved back to catcher and the rest of the Aggies moved to the positions where they started the game.

Mark Morrison walked to lead off the top of the sixth inning for Waverly and went to second base on a single to right field by Gunner Pappas.

Cody Ream came in to pitch for Dansville. Nathan Sherwood moved to third base and Dylan Ream shifted to shortstop.

R.J. Garcia singled to right field to drive in Mark Morrison. Gunner Pappas advanced to third base on the play. Kaleb Farr came in to pinch run for Waverly. Gunner Pappas scored and Kaleb Farr went to second base on an RBI grounder to second by Marquise Moore. The next Waverly batter lined to third base. After an overthrow, Austin threw the runner (who had not tagged up properly) out at second base to complete the double play and end the inning.

Waverly scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to trim Dansville’s lead to 4-3.

Andrew Lane entered the game to pitch for Waverly. He struck out the Dansville sixth inning leadoff batter and got the next hitter out on a grounder to third base. Dylan Ream walked. Andrew Lane struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Dansville had a 4-3 lead going into the top of the seventh inning.

Jackson Gomez was safe at first base on an error to open the top of the seventh inning for Waverly. The next hitter was out on a fly to right field and Cody Ream struck out the next Warrior batter. A.J. Robinson tripled to right field to drive in Jackson Gomez with the typing run. A.J. Robinson scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Cody Ream struck out the next Waverly batter for the final out.

Waverly scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Iggy Arroyo came in to pitch for Waverly. Jackson DeLong took over at third base and Timmy Mowry went to shortstop. Iggy Arroyo struck out the first two Aggie hitters in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shane Broughton drew a walk. Shane Broughton advanced from first base to third base on a passed ball. Zachary Sykes walked to put runners at first and third with two out. Cody Ream was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Iggy Arroyo retired the next batter on a grounder to second base to end the game.

Waverly won the first game of this double header by a 5-4 score.

Wyatt Mosley had a triple for Dansville. Dylan Ream had two singles and an RBI for Dansville. Quentin Mayes had a double and one RBI.

Nathan Sherwood pitched five innings for Dansville.

A. J. Robinson had a single, a triple and one RBI for Waverly. R.J. Garcia had two singles and two RBI. Moises Lerma, Jackson Gomez, Iggy Arroyo and Gunner Pappas each added one single. Marquise Moore had one RBI.

Gunner Pappas pitched five innings for Waverly. Andrew Lane and Iggy Arroyo each pitched one shutout inning.
