It is now time to look at the events of this game through the somewhat observant eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen whose baseball career never went very far. He came up with a revolutionary concept to help save wear and tear on baseball gloves. Instead of catching fly balls and grounders and allowing the ball to put excess wear on his mitt, the Bleacher Denizen would allow balls to drop and stop rolling before he picked them up. He found that baseball gloves lasted longer under these conditions.
However, his coach was not as impressed by these cost savings as the Bleacher Denizen was. When he noted a lot of batters reaching base and runners circling bases as the Bleacher Denizen allowed the ball to stop rolling, he became concerned. He seemed to be obsessed with the idea that the opposition was scoring more runs with the Bleacher Denizen’s approach to catching and fielding baseballs. A conflict arose, and unfortunately for your Bleacher Denizen, the coach’s approach prevailed and the Bleacher Denizen spent much more time leading cheers than playing.
