Tonight, the Bleacher Denizen is off to Dansville where the hometown Aggies will host the Panthers from Stockbridge in their second girls’ basketball game of the season. Each team enters the game with a 0-1 record.

It’s the first game after last night’s snow storm where winter made its official 2024 debut. (I do realize that many people say this does not happen until December 22, but they did NOT drive home from Bath in the snow last night!)

Dansville Coach Jesse Skouby provided me with this information about his Aggie players. Isabella Joseph is a guard who handles the ball well, can hit the three point shot and defends the perimeter well. Ryker Graf is a tough rebounder, defender and scorer near the basket. Alayna Broyles plays nice post defense; she also rebounds and scores well near the basket. Kaelee Forman is a quick freshman who handles the ball well and defends the perimeter aggressively.

Stockbridge Coach Jonathan Gillett provided me with this information about his Panther girls.

Zoe Buddenborg is a fine offensive player who scores inside or outside and can hit the three point shot. She also handles the ball well and is a good passer. Bella Rybus is a fine perimeter defender who can shoot from the outside. Emily Satkowiak defends the perimeter well and is a fine rebounder for a guard. She boxes out well. JayLee Chapman rebounds and defends well in the post. Melina Sayre adds excellent pressure to the Stockbridge perimeter defense.

Madeline Topping is an athletic post player who rebounds, scores and defends well. Emma Monaghan is a tough perimeter defender. Madisyn Atkins and Tayla Trapp defend and rebound well in the post.

It is now time to look at the events of this game through the somewhat alert eyes of an aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play basketball in the ancient times when at least some people considered him to be “young.” It was too late before he learned that you are only supposed to throw people basketballs if they are wearing a uniform the same color as yours. While your Bleacher Denizen felt that this limited his creativity, his coach totally had other ideas.

She hits one of her two free throws to give Stockbridge a 1-0 lead with 6:42 remaining in the opening quarter.
