Ithaca at Fulton – – Boys Basketball – – HINDsight Foundation Fund Raiser – – The Bleacher Denizen – – December 28, 2024 – – by Chuck Krafft

Today, the Ithaca Yellowjackets are visiting the Fulton Pirates as both the girls and the boys are playing games where the funds raised will be given to the HINDsight Foundation. The HINDsight Foundation does a lot of important work in helping to prevent teenaged suicide and is an organization well worth supporting.

Fulton’s Pirates enter this game with a 4-2 record while Ithaca is at 6-1.

I covered a Fulton game about a month ago and got this information from Coach Tyler Walden.

Ian Lamkin is a smooth three point shooter who can get really hot and make it really tough to beat his team. Parker Billings is a big, strong, athletic player who is a huge force on offense and defense in the post, but can also hit shots from the three point line. He is a fine rebounder as well. Bryson Sattler is hard to stop when he slashes to the basket. He is a fine ball handler and a quick, persistent perimeter defender who is a threat from the three point line.
Peyton Reynolds plays tough defense and rebounds well in the post. He is also fearless when it is time to take charging fouls from opposing players. Perker Duflo is a classic old style point guard who is excellent at running the offense and getting all his teammates involved. He is a focused, determined perimeter defender who gives the Pirates another three point threat.

Parker Hungerford is a strong perimeter defender who also passes the ball well. Tanner Villalobos was a star running back on the Pirates’ successful football team. He is a persistent, athletic perimeter defender who can hit the three point shot.

Ithaca Coach Josh Rayburn provide me with the following information about his Yellowjacket players.

Jackson Conn runs the point for the Yellowjackets. He is an excellent leader and diligent perimeter defender. He passes well and can hits shots from the three point line. Gibson Rondy and Bryson LeBaron are able to score on slashes to the basket or from the three point line. Ryley Smith is an excellent on-ball perimeter defender. Deacon Skinner is a big, physical post player who rebounds, defends and scores well in the post.

Eli Smith can score from the three point line or by slashing to the basket. Riley Guild plays tough physical defense and rebounds well in the post. Collin Thursh slashes to the basket well. Tanner Lamey is a tough on-ball defender who also rebounds well. J.T. Watson is a threat from the three point line.

I got to the gym in time to see the entire JV game. Ithaca got off to a 9-6 lead after one quarter and outscored Fulton 11-6 in the second quarter to take a 20-12 halftime lead. They extended their lead to 27-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Fulton got back into the game in the third quarter. The Pirates cut Ithaca’s lead to 29-23 with 6:00 left on a three point shot by Cameron Diana. They closed the lead to 30-28 with 3:35 to go on a layup by Zach Litwiller.

However, that is as close as Fulton was able to get as Ithaca held on for a 33-29 win.

Zach Litwiller had 23 points for Fulton to lead all scores. Cameron Diana added 3 points for Fulton. Jaxson Grubaugh put in 2 points and Jennings Burley scored 1 point.

Brayden Chatfield led the Ithaca JVs with 13 points. Devin Fisher and Griffin Marcy each chipped in with 9 points and Gunner McDaid scored 2 points.

It is now time to review this game through the eyes of an aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to rise above church league when he attempted to hoop in the days of yore. He was very confused at times. When he worked his job at the bakery, making turnovers was always considered a good time. He was very confused when he learned that his basketball coach didn’t really like turnovers at all.

Parker Billings throws the rebound off a Yellowjacket player to earn another possession for the Pirates. Fulton misses a driving layup. Parker Duflo draws a charging foul to foil an Ithaca fast break. Ryley White steals the ball and hits a fast break layup for Ithaca. He is fouled on the play, but misses his free throw. With 3:58 to go in the first quarter, Ithaca has a 7-4 lead.

Bryson LeBaron taps the offensive rebound to a Yellowjacket teammate. Ithaca misses a three point shot from the side. Deacon Skinner hits a putback, is fouled and hits his free throw for Ithaca. Ithaca inbounds the ball to get the fourth quarter underway. Ian Lamkin knocks the ball away from Ithaca, but the Yellojackets recover. Parker Hungerford draws a charging foul from Ithaca. Fulton misses a three point shot from the side, but Ithaca fouls on the rebound and the Pirates get another possession. Gibson Rondy steals Fulton’s inbound pass and Ryley White hits a fast break layup to give Ithaca a 40-33 lead.

Bryson Sattler hits a layup for Fulton. Bryson LeBaron passes to Jackson Conn, who throws in a threeball from the wing for Ithaca. Eli Smith knocks the ball away from Fulton, but the PIrates recover.
