Perry at Portland St. Patrick – – First Game of Baseball Doubleheader – – The Bleacher Denizen – – April 20, 2026 – – by Chuck Krafft
Today, it’s a cold day in Lansing, but your Bleacher Denizen bundled up and drove to Portland to see the baseball doubleheader between St. Patrick’s Shamrocks and Perry’s Ramblers. St. Patrick was the state baseball champion last season and they have a lot of returning players.
As we wait for the games to begin, I hope you will enjoy this comedy cover video of “Snoopy vs. the Red Baron”, which was a hit for the Royal Guardsmen in late 1966. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHucLvxuQx8

It is now time to look at the events of this game through the somewhat clear lenses of an Aging Bleacher Denizen, whose baseball career never really got off the ground. He was showing some promise as a fastball pitcher, but the baseball powers that be ruined everything when they ruled he was no longer able to fire his pitches from a cannon. When the speed went down, the opposing batting averages went up and the Bleacher Denizen’s playing time went (way) down!
Brady Leonard struck out Perry’s leadoff batter in the top of the first inning. Brady Doerner singled to center field. Brady Leonard retired the next Rambler hitter on a popup to second base. Shamrock Catcher Logan Howe fired the ball to second base to catch the runner stealing to record the third out.
Jerryd Scheurer singled down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the first inning for the Shamrocks. Jerryd Scheurer took second base on an errant kickoff throw and stole third base. Charlie Thelen was hit by a pitch. Charlie Thelen stole second base and Brady Leonard walked to load the bases. The next Shamrock hitter lined out to second base. St. Patrick scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Brady Leonard retired the first two Perry batters in the top of the second inning (literally). He caught a popup from the leadoff batter and caught a soft line drive from the second batter. Scott Lynde and Zack Miller both walked. Brady Leonard struck out the next Rambler batter to end the inning.
