It is now time to review the events of this game through the occasionally vigilant eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to have much of a career in baseball or softball. However, I proudly report that many opposing catchers and umpires will remember me and the wonderful cooling breezes generated by my attempts to put the bat on the baseball.

Perry Pitcher Bella Hamel retired the three Pewamo-Westphalia first inning hitters on a fly to center, a strikeout and a popup to second base.

Emma Winans walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Perry and went to second base when Bella Hamel beat out an infield single. Pirate Pitcher Eve Halfmann retired the next Rambler batter on a fly to left field. Ava Positano singled to center field. Emma Winans came around to score on an overthrow; Bella Hamel advanced to third base and Ava Positano to second. Stella Nosis entered the game as a courtesy runner for Ava Positano.

Lila Stackenauer walked to load the bases. Eve Halfmann got the next Perry hitter to hit a bouncer to the pitcher. Eve Halfmann threw to Catcher Reylee Thelen to force the runner at home. Reylee Thelen relayed the ball to First Baseman Rylee Reddin to complete a double play to end the inning.

Perry scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Elyse Thelen walked to lead off the top of the second inning for P-W and stole second base. Perry Shortstop Alivia Davis made a fine grab of a line drive bid for a single by Joslyn Smith to record the first Pirate out. Perry Center Fielder Emma Winans made a fine catch of a deep drive by Eve Halfmann to record the second Pirate out. Elyse Thelen tagged up and advanced to third base. Bella Hamel struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Eve Halfmann struck out the first two Perry hitters in the bottom of the second inning. Mariam Aldosary beat out an infield single and took second base when Emma Winans was safe at first on an error. Mariam Aldosary stole third base when a pickoff attempt was made at first base. Bella Hamel hit a ball to deep center field that was caught by Summer Wirth to end the inning.

Joslyn Smith walked to lead off the top of the third inning for P-W. Bella Hamel struck out the next Pirate hitter. Joslyn Smith advanced to second base when Summer Wirth was safe at first base on an error. Joslyn Smith advanced to third base and Summer Wirth to second when Reylee Thelen was safe at first base on an error.

Joslyn Smith was forced out at home and Rylee Reddin was safe at first base on a fielder’s choice grounder to the pitcher. Summer Thelen went to third base and Reylee Thelen to second. Summer Thelen was forced home when Elyse Thelen walked. Reylee Thelen advanced to third base and Rylee Reddin to second. Bella Hamel retired the next Pirate batter on a fly to second base to end the inning.

Pewamo-Westphalia scored one run in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Alivia Davis was safe on an error to lead off the bottom of the third inning for Perry. Eve Halfmann snagged a bouncer up the middle. She threw to shortstop Lauren Nurenberg to force the runner at second base; Lauren Nurenberg quickly relayed the ball to Rylee Reddin at first base to complete the double play. Eve Halfmann struck out the next Perry batter to end the inning.

Bella Hamel struck out the P-W leadoff batter in the top of the fourth inning. Lauren Nurenberg drew a walk and stole second base. Perry Shortstop Alivia Davis made a nice running catch of a soft infield fly to retire the next Pirate hitter. Lauren Nurenberg stole third base. Bella Hamel struck out the next P-W batter to end the inning.

Jessica Polhemus lined a single to center field to open the bottom of the fourth inning for Perry. Ryleigh Allen laid down a sacrifice bunt and was safe on an error. Jessica Polehemus advanced to second base. When P-W made a couple throwing errors, Jessica Polhemus came around to score and Ryleigh Allen went to second base. Eve Halfmann struck out the next Perry batter.

Mariam Aldosary was hit by a pitch. Ryleigh Allen went to third base and Mariam Aldosary to second on a single to right field by Emma Winans. Eve Halfmann retired the next Rambler batter on a fly to second base. Ryleigh Allen scored, Mariam Aldosary went to third base and Emma Winans to second base on a passed ball. Mariam Aldosary and Emma Winans scored when Alivia Davis blasted a home run over the left-center field fence. (This was the first home run I have seen this year in either baseball or softball.)

Eve Halfmann retired the next Perry hitter on a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.

Perry scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Bella Hamel retired the first P-W hitter in the top of the fifth inning on a bouncer to the pitcher. Reylee Thelen drew a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Rylee Reddin walked.

Alivia Davis came in to pitch for Perry and Bella Hamel moved to shortstop.

Elyse Thelen was safe at first base and Reylee Thelen out at third base on a fielder’s choice grounder to third base. Rylee Reddin advanced to second base. Maddy Weber walked. Alivia Davis retired the next Pirate hitter on a grounder to second base to end the inning.

Eve Halfmann retired the first two Perry hitters in the bottom of the sixth inning on a grounder to shortstop and a fly to right field. Ryleigh Allen walked. Eve Halfmann struck out the next Rambler batter to end the inning.

Lauren Nurenberg grounded a single up the middle to lead off the top of the sixth inning for P-W. She took second base on a passed ball. Alivia Davis struck out the next two Pirate hitters. Ryleigh Allen made a great diving stop of a grounder to second base by Summer Wirth, but Summer Wirth beat it out for an infield single as Lauren Nurenberg advanced to third base. Alivia Davis struck out the next Pirate hitter to end the inning.

Pinch Hitter Stella Nosis was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning for Perry. Emma Winans lined a single to left field and Stella Nosis went to second base. Stella Nosis advanced to third base and Emma Winans to second when Bella Hamel blooped a single to right field. Stella Nosis was forced home, Emma Winans went to third base and Bella Hamel to second base when Ava Positano was hit by a pitch.

Eve Halfmann got the next hitter to hit a grounder to second base. Maddy Weber threw to Catcher Reylee Thelen to force the runner at home. Reylee Thelen first the ball to Rylee Reddin at first base to complete the double play and end the inning.

Perry scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 7-1.

Alivia Davis struck out the first P-W batter in the top of the seventh inning. Elyse Thelen beat out a bunt single. Elyse Thelen advanced to third base when Maddy Weber was safe at second base on an error. Elyse Thelen scored when Eve Halfmann was safe at first base on a fielder’s choice when Perry Shortstop Bella Hamel threw to second base to catch the runner off base. Lauren Nurenberg walked and Eve Halfmann advanced to second base.

Joslyn Smith singled up the middle to drive Eve Halfmann home. Lauren Nurenberg advanced to second base. Alivia Davis struck out the next Pirate batter to end the game.

Pewamo-Westphalia scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Perry won by the final score of 4-3.

Elyse Thelen and Joslyn Smith each had a single and one RBI for Pewamo-Westphalia. Lauren Nurenberg had one single. Eve Halfmann had one RBI.

Eve Halfmann pitched the complete game for Pewamo-Westphalia and struck out five batters.

Alivia Davis had a home run and three RBI for Perry. Emma Winans and Bella Hamel each had two singles. Ava Positano had one single and one RBI. Jessica Polhemus and Mariam Aldosary each had one single.

Bella Hamel pitched four and one third innings. She gave up one unearned run and struck out six batters. Alivia Davis pitched two and two thirds innings. She gave up two unearned runs and struck out five batters.

It had started raining before the game ended; when the rains continued to come, the second game of this doubleheader was canceled.
