Tonight, the Bleacher Denizen is in Dansville. Dansville is hosting two boys basketball games to bring in the new season. In the first game, the Webberville Spartans will take on the Panthers from Stockbridge. This is the first game of the season for both teams.
Both coaches were generous with information about their teams. The Webberville Spartans, coached by Nate Lott, are led by his son, Senior fourth year player Nate Lott, who runs the point and basically can do anything his coach asks of him. He is tall enough to defend and score inside. He is athletic and skilled enough to defend and play on the perimeter. He shoots well, is an excellent ball handler and a great passer.
The second best player, Kolson Lycos, who is excellent on slashes to the basket and has a great motor, will be keeping the scorebook today as he recovers from an injury. He should be back on the court in January. Riley Kingsley plays well in the post. He has great offensive moves; he is also a strong rebounder and defender inside. Caleb Howard is strong slashing to the basket and is a determined perimeter defender as well. Max Mills and Tate Mills are scrappy, tireless perimeter defenders.
The Stockbridge Coaching Staff, led by Head Coach Jacob Robidou, gave me the following information about their Panther players. Drew Robinson is the point guard; he is very competitive and plays tough perimeter defense. Jacob Sawicki is a good scorer at the forward position. He is a threat from the three point line, in the mid-range game and at slashing to the basket. Drew Philipp is a versatile player who can play inside or out. He is a good leader, and also quite competitive and clever. Kegan Collins is good with his three point shot or at slashing to the basket. David Kluesner rebounds well. He also is a threat to hit the three point shot or score in the post.
Joseph Ballagh is a good three point shooter, accurate from the free throw line and gives Stockbridge ball handling help. Daniel Mahler is a tall rebounder who provides toughness and hustle. Hayden Ellsworth is a big guy who can help in the post. Micah Bolton and Collin Cook have great team attitudes and never stop hustling.
It is now time to review the events of this contest through the occasionally observant eyes of a Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play basketball in the days of yore. He was never able to completely grasp that when the opposing team cheered as he scored a basket, he was scoring for the wrong team. The mind boggles!!
