Today your Bleacher Denizen is heading to Fowler’s annual baseball/softball tournament. Your Bleacher Denizen got up a bit earlier than usual and made the trip to Fowler so he could see the Fowler Eagles compete with the Trojans from East Lansing. He took advantage of the time to listen to the latest song on his You Tube Channel!

He got to Fowler in time to catch up with some friends and get the starting lineups. Fowler will bat first. It’s time to look at the events of this game through the eyes of a Bleacher Denizen who delighted Little League umpires with the breezes generated by his futile swings of the bat.

East Lansing pitcher Nia Ditschman retired the Fowler first inning batter on a fly to the shortstop. Grace Piggott used a slap bunt to earn a single. She stole second base and scored when Paisley Hansen was safe on an error. Paisley Hansen took second base on a wild pitch. Brie Halfmann walked. Grace Piggott and Brie Halfmann stole second and third base. Carly Andros hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Paisley Hansen. Nia Ditschman retired the next batter on a fly to left field to end the inning.

Fowler scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Fowler Pitcher Brie Halfmann retired the three East Lansing batters in the bottom of the first inning on a grounder to third base, a fly to first base and a bouncer to the pitcher’s circle.

East Lansing Pitcher Nia Ditschman retired the three Eagle batters in the top of the first inning on a grounder to third base, a strikeout and a grounder to the pitcher’s circle.

Kate Borgstrom walked to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Fowler Catcher Avery Koenigsknecht picked the runner off first base. Brie Halfmann retired the next batter on a soft liner to first base. Talia Dunn singled to left field and went to third on Ace Broughman’s double into the right/center field gap. Brie Halfmann got the final out of the inning on a grounder to the pitcher’s circle to hold the Trojans scoreless for the inning.

Avery Koenigsknecht drilled a double off the left field fence to open the top of the third inning for Fowler. Grace Piggott hit a bunt single to move Avery Koenigsknecht to third base. Grace Piggott moved to second base on the play when the defense did not appear to see her advancing. Nia Ditschman made a quick reaction to retire the next batter on a line drive to the pitcher’s circle. Brie Halfmann hit a double to drive in Avery Koenigsknecht and Grace Piggott.

Brie Halfmann stole third base. Carly Andros walked and stole second base. Anna Andros was hit by a pitch to load the bases. East Lansing Second Baseman made a nice play on a fly ball to record the second Eagle out. Fowler made its third out on a grounder to second base.

Fowler scored two runs in the top of the third inning to boost its lead to 4-0.

Brie Halfmann retired the Trojan leadoff batter in the bottom of the fourth inning on a grounder to second base. Rosemary Buhl drew a walk. Naomi Sowa singled to left field and Rosemary Buhl took second base. Brie Halfmann struck out the next batter. Kate Borgstrom doubled to left field to drive in Rosemary Buhl and Naomi Sowa. East Lansing made its final out of the inning on a grounder to first base.

East Lansing scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to trim the Fowler lead to 4-2.

The Eagle fourth inning leadoff batter was called out for being out of the batter’s box on a bunt attempt. The next batter was out on a popup to second base. Grace Piggott was safe at first on an error. Paisley Hansen was safe at second on an error; Grace Piggott advanced to third base. Nia Ditschman retired the next hitter on a grounder to third base and held Fowler scoreless for the inning.

Brie Halfmann retired the Trojan fourth inning leadoff batter on a grounder to third base. Ace Broughman walked. She moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Nevaeh Vasquez. Marley Soros singled to centerfield to drive in Ace Broughman. When the runner attempted to take second base on the throw to the plate, Avery Koenigsknecht threw a strike to second base and got the third out of the inning.

East Lansing scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to shave the Fowler lead to 4-3.

Nia Ditschman retired the Fowler fifth inning leadoff batter on a grounder to third base. Anna Andros was safe on an error. Savanah Martin doubled to drive Anna Andros home. Savanah Martin moved up to third base on a passed ball and scored on Quinn Watts’ sacrifice bunt.

Fowler scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 6-3.

Brie Halfmann retired the East Lansing fifth inning leadoff batter on a line drive to the shortstop. Naomi Sowa doubled down the left field line. Naomi Sowa stole third base. Nia Ditschman doubled to left center to drive in Naomi Sowa. Nia Ditschman advanced to third base on a passed ball. Kate Borgstrom walked and stole second base. Annabelle DiMaggio was safe on a fielder’s choice grounder to the first baseman. Nia Ditschman was out at home and Kate Borgstrom moved to third base. Brie Halfmann struck out the next batter to end the inning.

East Lansing scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Fowler lead to 6-4.

Avery Koenigsknecht walked to lead off the top of the sixth inning for Fowler and stole second base. Grace Piggott had a bunt single and Avery Koenigsknecht went to third base. Paisley Hansen’s bid for a home run was caught by Trojan Centerfielder Nevaeh Vasquez, who made a fine running catch. Avery Koenigsknecht scored on the sacrifice fly. Grace Piggott stole second base.

The next batter was out on a popup to second base. Carly Andros singled to drive in Grace Piggott and went to second base on the throw home. Anna Andros was hit by a pitch. The next Fowler batter was out on a fly to the shortstop.

Fowler scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to raise its lead to 8-4.

Brie Halfmann retired the first two East Lansing hitters in the top of the sixth inning on a grounder to third base and a strikeout. Marley Soros walked and stole second base. Rosemary Buhl was hit by a pitch. Naomi Sowa tripled down the left field line to score Marley Soros and Rosemary Buhl. Nia Ditschman was hit by a pitch. East Lansing made its third out on a grounder to third base.

East Lansing scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to chop the Fowler lead to 8-6.

Brooke Weber was safe on an error to lead off the seventh inning for Fowler. Makenna Smith had a bunt single; when the ball was thrown away, Brooke Weber attempted to score, but Trojan Right Fielder alertly backed up the play and threw her out at home. When Makenna Smith attempted to get to second base on the throw, Catcher Rosemary Buhl threw a strike to second base to get her out. The next batter was out on a fly to centerfield to end the inning.

East Lansing came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning needing two runs to tie the game. Annabelle DiMaggio led off the inning with a walk. Carly Andros came in to pitch for Fowler.

Carly Andros struck out the next two East Lansing batters. Nevaeh Vasquez tripled to drive Annabelle DiMaggio home. Carly Andros struck out the next batter to end the game as East Lansing had the tying run on third base.

Fowler won 8-7 to advance to the tournament final.

Naomi Sowa had a triple, a double, a single and two RBI for East Lansing. Nevaeh Vasquez had a triple and one RBI. Kate Borgstrom had a double and two RBI. Nia Ditschman had a double and one RBI. Ace Broughman had a double. Marley Soros and Talia Dunn each had a single.

Grace Piggott had three singles for Fowler. Brie Halfmann had a double and two RBI. Avery Koenigsknecht and Savanah Martin each had a double. Carly Andros had a single and two RBI. Makenna Smith had a single. Quinn Watts and Paisley Hansen each had an RBI.
