Now that everyone has finished eating and had a chance to listen to music and to relax, here are the starting lineups. The Shamrocks from St. Patrick will be the visiting team and bat first. The Webberville Spartans are the home team and will bat last.

It is now time to review the events of the game through the aging eyes of a Bleacher Denizen who never played high school baseball. Unfortunately, the Bleacher Denizen’s career suffered a huge setback when the Baseball Powers That Be refused to allow him to use a bazooka to get his throws in from the outfield. Unfortunately, coaches frowned on runners scoring from first base on short pop flies to the Bleacher Denizen.

Shane Cook doubled to lead off the game for St. Patrick. He went to third base on a wild pitch. Kolson Lycos struck out the next batter, but the third strike was dropped. As the throw went to third base to retire the batter, Shane Cook dashed home with the first run of the game for the Shamrocks. Kolson Lycos struck out the next batter and got the third out on a bouncer to the mound to end the inning.

St. Patrick scored one run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Shamrock Pitcher Brady Leonard retired the Spartan first inning leadoff batter on a ground ball to third base. Evan Peterson drew a walk. The next batter bounced to Brady Leonard, who threw to Shortstop Shane Cook, who forced the runner at second base and threw to first to complete the double play and end the inning.

Kolson Lycos quickly got off the mound to field the St. Patrick leadoff batter’s squibbed grounder; Spartan First Baseman Alex Klempner made a nice stretch to enable the throw to beat the runner for the first out. Kolson Lycos struck out the next batter. Kyle Edlund walked. Kolson Lycos got the next hitter to pop out to the shortstop to end the inning.

Brady Leonard struck out the three Spartan batters in the bottom of the second inning.

Kolson Lycos retired the Shamrock third inning leadoff batter on a fly to center field. Shane Cook grounded a single up the middle and stole second base. Lucas Simon beat out a bunt single as Shane Cook moved up to third base. Lucas Simon stole second base. Shane Cook scored and Luca Simon took third base on a wild pitch. Kolson Lycos struck out the next batter.

Braxton Teachworth doubled off the right field fence to drive in Lucas Simon. Brayden Simon walked; the fourth pitch went wild and Braxton Teachworth advanced to third base on the play. Brayden Simon stole second base. Brady Leonard doubled to drive in Braxton Teachworth and Brayden Simon Webberville Centerfielder Austin Johnson made a nice running catch to record the third out.

St. Patrick scored four runs in the top of the third inning to boost its lead to 5-0.

Brady Leonard struck out the first two Spartan hitters in the third inning. Mike Jones walked. Shamrock Centerfielder Tyler Groothuis made a nice running catch to record the third out.

Kolson Lycos struck out the first two Shamrock batters out to open the top of the fourth inning. Shane Cook beat out a single off the pitcher’s glove. Spartan Catcher Evan Peterson made a strong throw to second base to catch the runner stealing to end the top of the fourth inning.

Braxton Teachworth came in to pitch for the Shamrocks. Brady Leonard moved to first base.

Evan Peterson lined a single to left field to open the bottom of the fourth inning for Webberville. He stole second base and third base. Evan Peterson scored on Austin Johnson’s RBI groundout to third base. Braxton Teachworth struck out the next hitter. Shamrock Second Baseman Kyle Edlund ranged wide to his left to stop a bid for a hit by Ethan Elzerman and threw to first base to record the third out.

Webberville scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the Shamrock lead to 5-1.

Lucas Simon beat out an infield hit to open the fifth inning for St. Patrick. Lucas Simon stole second base. Charlie Thelen was hit by a pitch. Spartan Centerfielder Austin Johnson caught Braxton Teachworth’s drive to centerfield and threw a frozen rope to third base to catch the Shamrock runner trying to advance for a double play. Charlie Thelen held at first base.

Charlie Thelen took second base on a wild pitch. Brayden Simon walked. Brady Leonard singled to right field to drive in Charlie Thelen. Brayden Simon advanced to third base. Brady Leonard moved up to second base on the throw to third base. Brayden Simon scored and Brady Leonard went to third base when Kyle Edlund was safe on an error.

Brady Leonard scored and Kyle Edlund advanced to third base on an errant pickoff throw. Tyler Groothuis doubled to drive in Kyle Edlund. Tyler Groothuis advanced to third base when Riley Mosser was safe on an error. Riley Mosser stole second base. Shane Cook walked to load the bases. Lucas Simon beat out an infield hit to drive in Tyler Groothuis. When a throwing error was made on the play, Riley Mosser also scored and Shane Cook advanced to third base. Charlie Thelen walked to load the bases.

Austin Johnson moved in from center field to pitch for Webberville. Mike Jones moved from third base to center field and Kolson Lycos moved over to third base.

Braxton Teachworth singled to left field to drive in Shane Cook and Lucas Simon. Charlie Thelen moved up to third base. Austin Johnson struck out the next batter to end the inning.

St. Patrick scored eight runs in the top of the third inning to advance its lead to 13-1.

Simon Brown came in to play first base for the Shamrocks.

Liam Wilder was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the fifth inning for Webberville. Liam Wilder stole second base. Braxton Teachworth struck out the next two batters. Liam Wilder stole third base. Braxton Teachworth retired the next batter on a popup to the mound to end the game.

St. Patrick won by the mercy rule with a 13-1 lead after five innings.

Evan Peterson had a single for Webberville.

Shane Cook had a double and two singles for St. Patrick. Braxton Teachworth and Brady Leonard each had a double, a single and two RBI. Tyler Groothuis had a double and one RBI. Lucas Simon had two singles and an RBI. Brayden Simon had a single.

Brady Leonard pitched three shutout innings for the Shamrocks and gave up no hits. He struck out five batters. Braxton Teachworth pitched two innings. He gave up one hit, one run and struck out three batters.
