East vs. West – – Hall of Fame Senior Softball All Star Game – – The Bleacher Denizen – – June 22, 2022 – – by Chuck Krafft

The final event of the Bleacher Denizen’s Sports Year will be the two All Star games. In this game, the East Stars will take on the West Stars.

As there are a lot of position changes in these all-star games, we will only note the defensive position of the pitcher unless there is a noteworthy play.

WEST:

It is now time to review the events of this game through the occasionally open eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who delighted catchers and umpires in his little league with the strong breezes generated by his flailing attempts to hit the ball!!

West will be the home team and East will bat first.

Announcer Jeff Kegler introduced the teams, Bob Every handed out medals to the players and the Bleacher Denizen sang the National Anthem.

Kira McManus will be the starting pitcher for the West team.

Halle Dargie led off the top of the first for Haslett with a single to left field. Halle Dargie stole second base. Hannah Ray walked. The next batter grounded out to third base where Alanna Garcia picked up the ball, stepped on third base to force the runner and threw to first base to complete a double play. Hannah Ray advanced to second base on the play. Ashlee Dailey and Hailey Bila walked to load the bases. Kira McManus retired the next batter on a grounder to first base to end the inning while holding East scoreless.

Stella Wilder will pitch for East.

Ella Bruntjens walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning for West. Ella Bruntjens stole second base. Kaedyn Hirschman singled to centerfield to drive in Ella Bruntjens. Kaelyn Hirschman went to second base on a wild pitch. Taylor Piper lined a single to left field as Kaedyn Hirschman advanced to third base. Kaedyn Hirschman scored and Taylor Piper took second base on a sacrifice fly to center field by Kira McManus.

Kate Lawson was hit by a pitch. East Left Fielder Audrey Nylander made a driving catch of a bid for a single by Alana Knox for the second out. Jadyn Joseph walked to load the bases. Alanna Garcia boomed a double to the right field fence to drive in Taylor Piper, Kate Lawson and Jadyn Joseph. Eva Curtis singled to centerfield to advance Alanna Garcia to third base. Kamdyn Coon was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Halle Dargie came in to pitch for the East team. Erin Groom lined a single to right field to drive in Alanna Garcia and Eva Curtis. Kamdyn Coon moved to third base. Erin Groom stole second base and Kamdyn Coon stole home after the throw went to second base. Halle Dargie struck out the next batter to end the inning.

West scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Kira McManus retired the East leadoff batter in the second inning on a grounder to third base. Audrey Nylander singled to centerfield and took second base on a wild pitch. Audrey Nylander advanced to third base on a groundout to third by Ellie Gains. Kira McManus retired the next hitter to end the inning.

Carly Scheurer opened the bottom of the second inning for the West team with a single to center field. Carly Scheurer advanced to second base when Mara Schrauben was safe at first on an error. Carly Scheurer and Mara Schrauben advanced to third base and second base on a double steal. Carly Scheurer scored and Mara Schrauben went to third base on an RBI groundout to the pitcher.

Mara Schrauben scored on an RBI groundout to the shortstop by Kaedyn Hirschman. Taylor Piper was hit by a pitch. Taylor Piper moved up to second base when Kira McManus walked. Kate Lawson walked to load the bases. Alanna Knox doubled to the right field fence to drive in Taylor Piper and Kira McManus. Kate Lawson advanced to third base.

West scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead.

Kira McManus retired the three East third inning batters on two ground outs to the shortstop and one groundout to third base.

Stella Wilder came in to pitch for East.

Alanna Garcia led off the bottom of the third inning for West with a single. Eva Curtis lined a single to center field as Alanna Garcia took second base. Stella Wilder retired the next batter on a fly to center field. Alanna Garcia advanced to third base and Eva Curtis to second on a passed ball. Erin Groom lined a single to right field to drive in Alanna Garcia. Eva Curtis advanced to third base. Lydia Meredith walked to load the bases.

The next batter lined out to the shortstop, who threw to third base to double off the runner for the third out.

West scored one run in the bottom of the third inning to move up to a 13-0 lead.

Kamdyn Coon came in to pitch for West.

Halle Dargie blasted a home run over the left-center field fence to lead off the top of the fourth inning for East. Kamdyn Coon retired the next batter on a grounder to third base. Kennedy Douglas lined a single to left field. Ashlee Dailey beat out an infield single as Kennedy Douglas went to second base. Kennedy Douglas advanced to third base and Ashlee Dailey to second on a wild pitch.

Hailey Bila singled to right field to drive in Kennedy Douglas and Ashlee Dailey. Hailey Bila advanced to second base on the throw home. Hailey Bila advanced to third base on Madison Wagner’s groundout to the shortstop and scored when Violet Wasilvich beat out a squibbed hit for a single. Kamdyn Coon retired the next hitter on a fielder’s choice grounder to the shortstop to end the inning.

East scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to trim the West lead to 13-4.

Halle Dargie came in to pitch for the East team.

Halle Dargie struck out the West leadoff batter in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ella Bruntjens walked. Kaedyn Hirschman singled over the shortstop’s head to move Ella Bruntjens to second base. The next batter was out on a fly to left field. Kira McManus walked to load the bases. Halle Dargie struck out the next hitter to end the inning while preventing the West team from scoring.

Carly Scheurer came in to pitch for West.

Ellie Gains singled to right field to open the top of the fourth inning for East and stole second base. Ellie Gains stole third base and came home on an error. Carly Scheurer struck out the next three batters to end the inning.

East scored one run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the West lead to 13-5.

Alana Knox singled up the middle to open the bottom of the fifth inning for the West team. Jadyn Joseph singled up the middle as Alana Knox moved to second base. Kamdyn Coon doubled to right field and drove in Jadyn Joseph and Eva Curtis. Halle Dargie retired the next batter on a grounder to the shortstop as the runner held at second. Lydia Meredith was hit by a pitch. Halle Dargie struck out the next batter to end the inning.

West scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 16-5 lead.

Carly Scheurer struck out the East leadoff batter in the sixth inning. Halle Dargie singled and stole second base. Carly Scheurer retired the next batter on a fly to right field. Kennedy Douglas doubled to right field to drive in Halle Dargie. Kennedy Douglas advanced to third base when Ashlee Dailey was safe at first base on n error. Ella Bruntjens made a great diving catch of a bid for an RBI single by Hailey Bila to end the inning.

East scored one run in the top of the sixth inning. In the middle of the sixth inning, the score was 16-6.

Stella Wilder came in to pitch for the East team.

Mara Schrauben was safe on an error to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning for the West team. Mara Schrauben advanced to second base on a single up the middle by Ella Bruntjens. Mara Schrauben went to third base and Ella Bruntjens to second on a wild pitch. Kaedyn Hirschman walked to load the bases.

Mara Schrauben scored, Ella Bruntjens went to third and Kaedyn Hirschman to second on an RBI groundout by Taylor Piper. Kira McManus beat out an infield single to drive in Ella Bruntjens as Kaedyn Hirschman held at second base. Kaedyn Hirschman went to third base and Kira McManus to second base on a groundout to third base by Kate Lawson. Stella Wilder retired the next West batter on a liner to shortstop to end the inning.

West scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 18-6. Madison Wagner doubled to deep center field to lead off the top of the seventh inning for the East team. Madison Wagner took third base on a sacrifice bunt by Violet Wasilvich. Carly Scheurer struck out the next batter. Madison Wagner scored when Ellie Gains was safe at first on an error. Carly Scheurer struck out the next batter to end the game.

East scored on run in the top of the seventh inning.

West won the game 18-7.

Halle Dargie had a home run and two singles as well as one RBI for the East team. Kennedy Douglas had a double, a single and one RBI. Madison Wagner had a double. Hailey Bila had a single and two RBI. Violet Wasilvich had a single and one RBI. Ashlee Dailey, Audrey Nylander and Ellie Gains teach had a single.

Eva Curtis had a double, two singles and one RBI for the West team. Alanna Garcia had a double, a single and three RBI. Alana Knox had a double, a single and two RBI. Kamdyn Coon had a double and two RBI. Erin Groom had two singles and three RBI. Kaedyn Hirschman had two singles and two RBI. Kira McManus had a single and two RBI. Ella Bruntjens and Taylor Piper each had a single and one RBI. Jadyn Joseph and Carly Scheurer each had a single.

Kira McManus pitched three innings of shutout softball in this slugfest. Carly Scheurer only gave on one run per inning in the three innings she pitched. She struck out six batters in the three innings.
