Bath at Dansville – – CMAC Boys Game of the Week – – The Bleacher Denizen – – January 20, 2023 – – by Chuck Krafft

Tonight, your Bleacher Denizen is off to Dansville where the Aggies will host the Fighting Bees from Bath in the CMAC Boys Game of the Week!

In this You Tube Video, I let people know that you never know where the Red River Valley will lead you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w03AhhNk1M8

Unfortunately, it does not lead to Dansville, but fortunately for the Bleacher Denizen and (hopefully) his readers, M-36 does, so I was able to get to Dansville High without too much trouble!

Bath is coming off a season where they won their regional; most of those players have graduated. This year, Bath is 1-6 entering this game.

DeVondre Chandler is one of the quickest, strongest and best leaping players in the CMAC. He is solid at all phases of the game, but his athletic ability makes him nearly unstoppable on drives to the basket. His athletic ability combined with a lot of intensity on defense makes him a threat to steal the ball from any player at any time. Jacob Kuhn is a solid inside scorer.

Dansville is 3-7 coming into this game; this is a bit misleading because after an 0-5 start, Dansville has won three of its last five games. Aggie Coach Ryan Masters provided me with this information about this years’ players.

Cody Ream runs the point for the Aggies. He is a fine ball handler who slashes to the basket well and plays impressive perimeter defense. Elijah Neal slashes to the basket well and is a strong perimeter defender. Zachary Sykes is another perimeter defender with an accurate three point shot.

Drew Frantz is a clever player who is really creative with moves to score in the lane over bigger players. He is also a solid ball handler, three point shooter and perimeter defender. Calvin vanHartesvelt is a big guy who defends and rebounds well in the post. He is also a fine scorer near the basket. Dylan Ream is able to defend in the post or on the perimeter. He slashes to the basket well and can hit the three point shot.

I was excited to see one of my favorite Aggie players from the past, Brad Chattaway, who was the most energetic player I have ever seen in thirteen years of blogging these games. Early in this article from 2016, I compare his energy to a toddler with an unlimited sugar supply. He was an amazing player at what he did best. I’ll give an extra tribute to him with a link to the article where I used the “sugar supply” line. https://thebleacherdenizen.blogspot.com/2016/01/dansville-at-fowler-boys-basketball.html

Mr. Chattaway now coaches the Dansville JV.

I got to the JV game at halftime. The Bath JV had a 27-10 lead at halftime and controlled the rest of the game on their way to a 46-20 win.

Wyatt Mosley, who is also an excellent baseball pitcher led the Aggie JVs with 8 points. Nathan Sherwood scored 6 points. Quinnton Burgett, who is also a varsity fifth quarter player, added 5 points. Quentin Mayes tallied 1 point.

Andy Wonch led the victorious Bath JVs with 11 points. Ethan Wicks contributed 9 points. Jay Kreisler chipped in with 7 points. Brayden Teachworth scored 6 points. Mitchell Hammond and Aiden Wolf each tossed in 4 points. Aden Briggs and Calvin Smith each added 2 points. Brady Smith tallied 1 point.

It is now time to look at the results of the varsity game through the occasionally clear lenses of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play basketball back in the day. While people criticized his ball handling, in his defense, I will point out that few people could get the boulders we had to use for basketballs in ancient times to bounce predictably.
