Dansville at Potterville – – CMAC Boys Co-Game of the Week – – The Bleacher Denizen – – January 27, 2023 – – by Chuck Krafft

Tonight, your Bleacher Denizen had plans to go South to Pittsford, but the snow and slippery driving conditions made your Aging Bleacher Denizen decide to come to a game that is a bit closer to his home. Instead of driving south, he decided to heed Horace Greeley’s advice to young men and go west – – to Potterville. (OK, I concede that Mr. Greeley was talking to young men and not gray haired retirees, but I had to start the article with something.)

Since I’m going west, maybe we can enjoy this old Western standard from my You Tube Channel as we wait for the game to start! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlPaiHsbOnA

I got to Potterville’s gym without any harrowing slippery experiences and got into the gym just as the first quarter of the JV game ended. Potterville had a 19-0 lead after one quarter and went on to win the JV game 54-28.

Wyatt Mosley led the Dansville JVs with 8 points. Quentin Mayes scored 6 points. Cole Hagelberger tossed in 5 points. Austin Hovey added 4 points. Nathan Sherwood put in 3 points. Brian Bradley tallied 2 points.

Reid Jackson led the Potterville JVs with 15 points. Isaiah Woloszyn scored 12 points to join his teammate in double figures. Andrew Wright contributed 8 points. Vissed Vue chipped in with 7 points. Keegan Bennett put in 4 points. Ezzy Taylor, Aaron Crittenden, Elijah Pung and Luke Ward each tallied 2 points.

Dansville’s Aggies enter this game with a 4-7 record. They are on an upswing, however, since losing their first five games, they have won four of their last six.

Drew Frantz is a player who has a creative knack for scoring points in the lane. He is also a strong three point shooter who handles the ball well and is a solid perimeter defender. Calvin VanHartesvelt is an excellent post player who uses his 6′ 4″ height well to block shots, defend in general, get rebounds and score in the lane. Cody Ream runs the point for the Aggies. He is a fine ball handler, slasher to the basket and perimeter defender.

Elijah Neal slashes to the basket well and can shoot the three point shot. Zachary Sykes also defends well and can shoot the threeball. Dylan Ream defends well in the post or on the perimeter. He slashes to the basket well and can also hit three point shots.

The Potterville Vikings bring a 7-6 record into tonight’s game. DaMarion Hicks has recovered from a heart problem over the suffer to resume his role as a tall and incredibly quick and strong athlete who jumps really well and can defend any position anywhere on the floor. He causes a lot of turnovers with his quickness, energy and determination and is able to score on drives to the basket and putbacks.

His brother Chris Hicks is not quite as tall, but is also incredibly quick, strong and athletic. He also terrorizes opposing guards with his size and quickness, thus creating a lot of turnovers. He handles the ball well and runs the point much of the time. He is one of the leading scorers in the area as it is really difficult for opposing defenders to keep him away from the basket.

Bene Vasquez defends well on the perimeter and is a dependable shooter. Jonah Bovee usually mans the middle and brings a strong three point shot to the Vikings, but he is sitting out tonight. Diego Vasquez plays tough perimeter defense. Jacob Bishop is a versatile player who scores and defends well either on the perimeter or in the post.

It is now time to look at the results of this game through the hopefully accurate prism of an aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league when he attempted to play basketball in the olden days. He attempted to cover his problem with foot speed by getting the basketball powers that be to require opposing players to wear heavy ankle weights, but somehow, they never got around to passing that proposal.

Jim Smith, the Potterville Band Director, sang the national anthem at the start of the game and did a tremendous job!!
