The Laingsburg Wolfpack and the Saranac Red Hawks are getting ready for Game 2 of their baseball doubleheader. As we get ready to play game 2, the teams are eating. Thanks to the Laingsburg team for giving me a wrap and especially some water. Today has been really warm and humid; the water especially is a godsend!! Here are the starting lineups. Even though we are in Saranac, the Saranac Red Hawks are the visiting team and will bat first. The Laingsburg Wolfpack, who are an hour from Laingsburg, are the home team. Your Bleacher Denizen’s mind boggles!!

It is now time to record the events of this game through the somewhat alert eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen whose speed was always criticized when he attempted to play baseball during the Middle Ages. In his defense, I would like to point out that few people ran very fast in the full armor that was part of our baseball uniforms in medieval times.

Dom Garcia retired the Saranac leadoff batter on a fly to left field. Cam Cook drilled a solid single to left field. Dom Garcia picked the runner off first base and struck out the next Red Hawk hitter to end the inning.

Dom Garcia was safe on an error to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Laingsburg. Dom Garcia stole second base. Cam Cook struck out the next Wolfpack hitter. Ty Randall singled to drive Dom Garcia home. Saranac Third Baseman Grady Proctor alertly fired the ball to second base to catch the runner trying to advance on the throw home. Cam Cook struck out the next Laingsburg hitter to end the inning.

Laingsburg scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Dom Garcia retired the Red Hawk second inning leadoff batter on a grounder to third base. Wolfpack Left Fielder Kyle Thelen made an excellent attempt at catching a foul off the bat of the next batter. Dom Garcia retired the next two Saranac hitters on a fly to center field and a pop fly to short left field where Wolfpack Shortstop Ty Randall made an excellent catch running with his back to home plate to end the inning.

Cam Ballard singled to left field to lead off the bottom of the second inning for the Wolfpack. Jackson Audretsch was safe at first and Cam Ballard out at second on a fielder’s choice grounder to second base. Jackson Audretsch advanced to second base on an overthrow. Elliott Wilsey singled to center field to drive in Jackson Audretsch and took second base on the throw to home. Elliott Wilsey advanced to third base on a one hopper to the mound by Nick Regan. Cam Cook retired the next batter on a foul popup to third base to end the inning.

Laingsburg scored one run in the bottom of the second inning to boost its lead to 2-0.

Dom Garcia struck out the Red Hawk leadoff batter to start the top of the third inning. Chase Stephens singled to left field. Wolfpack Catcher Jackson Audretsch fired a strike to second base to catch the runner stealing. Dom Garcia struck out the next hitter to end the inning.

Dom Garcia singled to center field to lead off the bottom of the third inning for the Wolfpack and advanced to second base on a nice sacrifice bunt by his twin brother, Emilio Garcia. Dom Garcia advanced to third base when Ty Randall was safe at first on an error. Hayden Johnston doubled to the left field fence to drive in Dom Garcia as Ty Randall advanced to third base. Cam Cook got an important strikeout of the next batter and retired the subsequent batter on a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.

Laingsburg added one run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Dom Garcia retired the first two Saranac batters in the top of the fourth inning on a strikeout and a popup to third base. Warren Hill blasted a home run over the left field fence. Dom Garcia retired the next batter on a grounder to the shortstop to end the inning.

Saranac scored one run in the top of the third inning to trim the Laingsburg lead to 3-1.

Cam Cook retired the three Laingsburg hitters in the bottom of the fourth inning on a strikeout, a popup to shortstop and a grounder to third base.

Maddox Foster singled up the middle to lead off the top of the fifth inning for Saranac and took second base on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Sterzick. Maddox Foster advanced to third base on a ground out to third base by Evan Johnson. Dom Garcia retired the next batter on a grounder to second base to end the inning while holding Saranac scoreless.

Dom Garcia opened the bottom of the fifth inning for Laingsburg by rifling a sharp single to right field. Dom Garcia stole second base. Emilio Garcia beat out an infield single as Dom Garcia held at second base. Dom Garcia took third base and Emilio Garcia second base on a groundout to first base by Ty Randall. Hayden Johnston walked to load the bases.

Everyone was safe including hitter Cam Ballard on a fielder’s choice infield grounder. Dom Garcia scored, Emilio Garcia went to third base and Hayden Johnston took second base on the play. The next Wolfpack batter was out on a fly to the shortstop. Elliott Wilsey doubled to drive in Emilio Garcia, Hayden Johnston and Cam Ballard. Cam Cook retired the next Wolfpack hitter on a grounder to second base to end the inning.

Laingsburg scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 7-1.

Dom Garcia struck out the Red Hawk leadoff batter in the top of the sixth inning. Max Olsen singled to center field. Cam Cook was safe at first base and Max Olsen out at second on a fielder’s choice grounder to the shortstop. Warren Hill walked and Cam Cook went to second base. Keatyn Walsweer pinch ran for Warren Hill. Dom Garcia struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Cam Cook struck out the Wolfpack leadoff batter in the top of the seventh inning and retired the next batter on a grounder to second base. Emilio Garcia singled to left field. Red Hawk Left Fielder Evan Johnson made a fantastic running catch in left field off a drive by Ty Randall to end the inning. He was playing very near center field and somehow got within about twenty feet of the foul line in left field to make that fantastic catch.

Dom Garcia retired the three Red Hawk batters in the seventh inning on a strikeout, a great running catch by Kyle Thelen in left field and another strikeout to end the game.

Laingsburg won the second game of this doubleheader by a 7-1 score.

Warren Hill blasted a home run for Saranac. Max Olsen, Cam Cook, Maddox Foster and Chase Stephens each had a single.

Cam Cook pitched the entire game for Saranac and struck out five batters.

Elliott Wilsey had a great day at the plate for Laingsburg with a single, a double and four RBI. Dom Garcia and Emilio Garcia each had two singles. Hayden Johnston had a double and one RBI. Cam Ballard and Ty Randall each had a single and one RBI.

Dom Garcia pitched the complete game for Laingsburg. He gave up one run and five hits; he also struck out eight Red Hawk batters.
