Laingsburg at Pewamo-Westphalia – – First Game of Baseball Doubleheader – – The Bleacher Denizen – – May 12, 2026 – – by Chuck Krafft

Today, the BleacherDenizenMobile is pointed at Pewamo-Westphalia High School, where your Bleacher Denizen is blogging baseball. The hometown Pirates are hosting the Wolfpack from Laingsburg. It is a bit chilly for baseball and there was a light rain for the last ten minutes or so of my drive, but the rain stopped in time for the game.

Here are the starting lineups. Laingsburg is the visiting team and will bat first.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the occasionally alert eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to get his baseball career off the ground. I do take pride in knowing that opposing catchers and umpires all treasured the cooling breezes resulting from your Bleacher Denizen’s flailing attempts to hit baseballs!

Nolan George struck out Laingsburg’s leadoff batter in the top of the first inning and got the second Wolfpack out on a grounder to second base. Everett Rodriquez was hit by a pitch. P-W Second Baseman Sam Thelen made a nice play to his left to record the third Wolfpack out.

Andrew Kriss walked to lead off the top of the first inning for Pewamo-Westphalia. He went all the way to third base on an errant pickoff throw and scored on an RBI groundout to second base by Brandt Kramer. Logan Drysdale singled up the middle. Kaine Simon entered the game as a courtesy runner for Logan Drysdale. Kaine Simon was out and Alex Drysdale safe at first on a fielder’s choice grounder to second base.

Alex Drysdale advanced to third base when Will Huhn struck out, but ran to first base when the third strike was not caught. Will Huhn (probably deliberately) was picked off first base and got into a rundown long enough for Alex Drysdale to score from third base before he was tagged out for the third out.

Pewamo-Westphalia scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Harrison Dorman singled to right center field to lead off the top of the second inning for Laingsburg. Nolan George struck out the next Wolfpack batter. Harrison Dorman advanced to second base on a bounceout to the pitcher by Cooper Morr. Nolan George struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Hayden Smith was safe at first base when he struck out and the third strike was not caught. He went to second base when Cody Pohl was hit by a pitch. Nolan George beat out a bunt single as Hayden Smith took third base and Cody Pohl advanced to second base. Dez Herold struck out the next two Pirate hitters.

Hayden Smith scored, Cody Pohl advanced to third base and Nolan George to second base on a wild pitch. Brandt Kramer walked to load the bases. Cody Pohl scored, Nolan Goerge took third base and Brandt Kramer second on a wild pitch. Quintin Garcia made a great running catch in right field to get the third Pirate out.

Pewamo-Westphalia scored two runs in the bottom of the second lead to boost its lead to 4-0.

Titan Sindel doubled to the left field fence to lead off the top of the third inning for the Wolfpack. Quintin Garcia beat out a high-hopping infield single and Titan Sindel went to third base. Quintin Garcia stole second base. Everyone was safe when Jake Rivet hit a fielder’s choice grounder and Titan Sindel beat the throw home. Quintin Garcia was safe at third base and Jake Rivet at first.

Jake Rivet stole second base. Everett Rodriquez doubled to right field and drove Quintin Garcia and Jake Rivet home. Nolan George retired the next Wolfpack batter on a fly to center field and struck out the next batter.

Sam Thelen came in to pitch for P-W. Nolan George went to shortstop and Will Huhn moved to second base.

Dez Herold singled to center field to drive Everett Rodriquez home. Sam Thelen retired the next Wolfpack batter on a fly to right field to end the inning.

Laingsburg scored four runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Alex Drysdale was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the third inning and stole second base. Will Huhn was hit by a pitch. Dez Herold retired the next Pirate batter on a popup to the mound. Alex Drysdale went to third base and will Huhn to second on a balk. Dez Herold retired the next two batters on a popup to third base and a fly to center field to end the inning.

Sam Thelen retired the three Laingsburg hitters in the top of the fourth inning on a fly to center field, a grounder to the shortstop and a grounder to third base.

Laingsburg Right Fielder Quintin Garcia made a fine running catch in right field to get the first Pirate out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Andrew Kriss doubled down the left field line. Brandt Kramer walked. Andrew Kriss went to third base and Brandt Kramer to second when Logan Drysdale walked. Kaine Simon entered the game as a courtesy runner for Logan Drysdale.

Andrew Kriss scored, Brandt Kramer went to third base and Kaine Simon to second base on a wild pitch. Dez Herold retired the next two Pirate hitters on a popup to the mound and a grounder to third base to end the inning.

Pewamo-Westphalia scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Jake Rivet was safe at first base on an error to lead off the top of the fifth inning for Laingsburg. He went to second base when Everett Rodriquez was hit by a pitch. Jake Rivet went to third base and Everett Rodriquez to second base when Liam Esch was safe at first when an error was made on his sacrifice bunt.

Harrison Dorman singled to center field to drive Jake Rivet and Everett Rodriquez home as Liam Esch advanced to third base. Harrison Dorman stole second base. Dez Herold hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive Liam Esch home as Harrison Dorman advanced to third base.

Sam Thelen struck out the next Wolfpack hitter. Jayce Miller walked and stole second base. Sam Thelen struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Laingsburg scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead.

Logan Potter went in to pitch for Laingsburg. Dez Herold moved to second base.

Logan Potter retired the three Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning on a strikeout, a bouncer to the pitcher and a bouncer to first base.

Sam Thelen retired the three Wolfpack hitters in the sixth inning on a fly to right field, a bunt to the pitcher and a strikeout.

Logan Potter got the Pirate leadoff batter in the bottom of the sixth inning on a popup to the shortstop. Andrew Kriss blasted a double to deep center field. Logan Potter retired the next two batters on a line drive to center field and a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.

With six full innings in the books, Laingsburg had a 7-5 lead.

Sam Thelen retired the first two Laingsburg batters in the top of the seventh inning on a fly to left field and a fly to second base. Dez Herold was safe at first base on an error. Sam Thelen picked the runner off first base to end the inning.

Logan Potter retired the P-W leadoff batter in the bottom of the seventh inning on a fly to left field. Wolfpack Second Baseman Dez Herold made a great running catch of a pop fly for the second out. The Pirates made their final out of the final inning on a grounder to second base.

Laingsburg won the first game of this doubleheader by the final score of 7-5.

Andrew Kirss had two doubles for Pewamo-Westphalia. Logan Drysdale had one single. Brandt Kramer had one RBI.

Nolan George pitched two and two thirds innings for P-W. He gave up four runs; three of them were earned. He also struck out four Laingsburg hitters.

Sam Thelen pitched four and one third innings for P-W. He gave up three runs, but only one was an earned run. He struck out three batters.

Harrison Dorman had two singles and two RBI for Laingsburg. Everett Rodriquez had a double and two RBI. Dez Herold had a single and two RBI. Titan Sindel had a double. Quintin Garcia had a single. Jake Rivet had one RBI.

Dez Herold pitched four innings for Laingsburg. He gave up five runs, but only three were earned runs. He struck out four Pirate hitters. Logan Potter pitched three shutout innings for the Wolfpack and struck out one batter.
