Perry at Fowler – – Second Game of Baseball Doubleheader – – The Bleacher Denizen – – May 7, 2026 – – by Chuck Krafft
Today, the Bleacher Denizen is in Fowler covering the baseball doubleheader between the hometown Eagles and the Perry Ramblers. I also covered the first game of the doubleheader. Here is the play by play of that game. https://thebleacherdenizen.com/2026/05/08/perry-at-fowler-first-game-of-baseball-doubleheader-the-bleacher-denizen-may-7-2026-by-chuck-krafft/
Your Bleacher Denizen has made it through a very cold first game. (What is with the weather this year? I have worn my winter leather jacket to every baseball and softball game I have covered so far this spring!) Anyway, the players for both teams are in good spirits, and this is what it should really be about. Your Bleacher Denizen will just have to endure the cold – – all the while keeping his eye out for any rampaging walruses.
Your Bleacher Denizen is still getting used to the concept that in most high school doubleheaders, the home team is the visiting team for the second game and the visiting team is the home game. This confuses the Bleacher Denizen, although to be fair, that does not always take a lot. Anyway, for this game, Perry will be the home team even though we are in Fowler. The Eagles will bat first.
Here are the starting lineups.

Let’s take a look at the events of this game through the eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who struggled (to put it mildly) when he attempted to play baseball in the days of yore. Things were starting to look up until the baseball powers that be insisted that he no longer put metal in the baseball and a magnet in his bat to make contact more likely. As he started to air condition the field with his flailing swings, his coach decided that the more comfortable conditions were not worth it and cut off his playing time.
Perry Pitcher Brady Doerner retired the Fowler leadoff batter in the top of the first inning on a fly to second base. Jesse Andros beat out an infield single. Brady Doerner got the next Eagle hitter to hit a grounder to Shortstop Zack Miller, who flipped the ball to Second Baseman Nolan Krupp for the force; Nolan Krupp fired the ball to First Baseman Wyatt Patrick for an inning-ending double play! (In high school, I don’t see ground ball double plays often.)
Fowler Pitcher Noah Schafer retired Perry’s first two hitters in the bottom of the first inning on a bouncer to the mound and a strikeout. Tyler Whitbeck singled to center field. Noah Schafer struck out the next Rambler batter for the third out.
Trevor Spicer was safe on an error to lead off the top of the second inning for Fowler and went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jack O’Hare. Beckett Hansen singled and Trevor Spicer advanced to third base. Trevor Spicer scored and Beckett Hansen took third base on an overthrow. Brady Doerner struck out the next Eagle batter and got the third out on a grounder to second base to hold Fowler to one run for the inning.
Fowler scored one run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Noah Schafer retired Perry’s leadoff batter in the top of the second inning on a grounder to second base. Scott Lynde was safe at first base when his third strike turned into a passed ball and he beat the throw to first base. Olyan McFarland singled to left field and Scott Lynde advanced to second base. Scott Lynde took third base and Olyan McFarland second base on a groundout to third base by Treven Kucish. Noah Schafer struck out the next batter to end the inning while holding Perry scoreless.
Brady Doerner retired the three Fowler batters in the third inning on a bouncer to the mound, a soft line drive to the pitcher where he reacted really quickly to catch the ball and a fly to left field.
Johnny McConnell was safe on an error to lead off the top of the third inning for the Ramblers. He got all the way to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Brady Doerner. Tyler Whitbeck was hit by a pitch. Johnny McConnell was out at the plate and Nolan Krupp safe at first base on a fielder’s choice bunt where Noah Schafer, quickly fielded the ball and just as quickly got the ball to Catcher Jesse Andros, who applied the tag. Tyler Whitbeck went to second base on the play. (Both pitchers are having great fielding games!) Noah Schafer retired the next Rambler batter on a bouncer to the mound to end the inning.
Noah Schafer was safe on an error to lead off the top of the fourth inning for Perry and stole second base. Trevor Spicer drew a walk. Perry Catcher Olyan McFarland fired the ball to third base to catch the runner stealing. Jack O’Hare walked and Trevor Spicer advanced to second base. Trevor Spicer advanced to third base and Jack O’Hare to second base when Beckett Hansen was safe at first base on an error.
Trevor Spicer scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Drew Weber; the other runners held at first and second base. Olyan McFarland made his second great throw of the inning as he threw to third base to catch the runner stealing for the inning’s final out. (I have been covering these baseball and softball games for over ten years and can’t recall ever seeing a catcher throw out two runners at third base in the same inning before.)
Fowler scored one run in the top of the fourth inning to boost its lead to 2-0.
Noah Schafer struck out all three Perry batters in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Liam Laske walked to lead off the top of the fifth inning for Fowler. Perry Right Fielder Treven Kusich alertly backed up first base to prevent Liam Laske from advancing on an errant pickoff throw. Liam Laske advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Cam Rhynard. Liam Laske advanced to third base when Chase Katich was safe at first base on an error. Jesse Andros walked to load the bases.
Perry Shortstop Zack Miller made a great running catch to record Fowler’s second out of the inning. Brady Doerner got the next Eagle batter out on a grounder to third base to end the inning.
Noah Schafer retired Perry’s leadoff batter in the bottom of the fifth inning on a grounder to first base. Johnny McConnell was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Johnny McConnell advanced to third base on a groundout to first base by Brady Doerner. Tyger Whitbeck blasted a double to deep, deep center field to drive Johnny McConnell home. Noah Schafer struck out Perry’s next batter to end the inning.
Perry scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Fowler lead to 2-1.
Brady Doerner retired the three Fowler hitters in the top of the sixth inning on a grounder to third base, a bouncer to the mound and a fly to right field.
Fowler Third Baseman Jack O’Hare made a great play on a slow roller by Perry’s leadoff batter and threw him out at first base. Noah Schafer struck out the next Rambler batter. Olyan McFarland was hit by a pitch. Treven Kucish lined a single to left field and Olyan McFarland advanced to second base. Fowler Second Baseman made a great running catch on a bid for a single by Logan France (it would probably have tied the game) to end the inning.
Brady Doerner retired Fowler’s leadoff batter in the top of the seventh inning on a grounder to second base. Cam Rhynard singled to left field and went to second base when Chase Katich beat out a bunt single. Cam Rhynard advanced to third base and Chase Katich to second base on a groundout to second base by Jesse Andros.
Johnny McConnell came in to pitch for Perry and Brady Doerner went out to play center field. (That is his fourth position he has played this doubleheader; he has also pitched, played first base and played left field.)
Noah Schafer lined a single to center field to drive Cam Rhynard and Chase Katich home. Trevor Spicer smashed a double to deep center field to drive Noah Schafer home. Jack O’Hare walked. Johnny McConnell got the next Eagle batter out on a grounder to third base to end the inning.
Fowler scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend its lead to 5-1.
Noah Schafer retired Perry’s first two batters in the bottom of the seventh inning on foul popup to third base and a strikeout. Tyger Whitbeck was hit by a pitch. Perry made its third out on a foul popup to the catcher to end the game.
Fowler won the second game of this doubleheader 5-1.
