The Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks and Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates are playing a double header today. Here is the result of the first game!
After a dinner break, it was time for the second game.
For those of you who did not bring a dinner, here are some “Good Vibrations” from my You Tube Channel!
This time, St. Patrick will bat first and Pewamo-Westphalia will be the “home” team. Here are the starting lineups!

Rylee Scheurer was safe at first on an error to lead off the game for the Shamrocks. She stole second base and went to third base on a throwing error. Carly Scheurer hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Rylee Scheurer. Lydia Meredith was safe on an error. She stole second base and third base. Emma Honsowitz walked and was able to run all the way to second base. Lydia Meredith scored while this was happening.
Lauren Martin retired the next Shamrock batter on a fly to centerfield. Addie Scheurer singled to right field to drive in Emma Honsowitz. Lauren Martin retired the next batter on a grounder to third base to end the inning.
After one half inning, St. Patrick had a 3-0 lead.
Carly Scheurer retired the three Pirate first inning batters on two grounders to shortstop and a bouncer to the pitcher’s circle.
Tori Sandborn was safe on an error to lead off the second inning for St. Patrick. Pewamo-Westphalia Catcher Olivia Black made a nice throw to second base to catch the runner stealing. P-W Centerfielder Brooke Spitzley made a great catch running in on Laynie Meredith’s liner for the second out. Rylee Scheurer pounded a home run over the right field fence. Lauren Martin got the next batter on a fly to right field to end the inning.
With one and a half inning in the books, St. Patrick had a 4-0 lead.
Carly Scheurer got the P-W second inning leadoff batter out on a soft liner to second base. Olivia Black was safe at first base on an error. Carly Scheurer struck out the next hitter. Olivia Black stole second base on the third strike. P-W made the final out of the inning on a popup to second base.
In the top of the third inning for the Shamrocks, leadoff batter Lydia Meredith was safe on a dropped popup. Lauren Martin retired the next three batters on a fly to first base, a grounder to shortstop and a grounder to third base.
Evie Smith led off the third inning for P-W with a lined single down the first base line. She advanced to second base when Halie Myers drew a walk. Shamrock Shortstop Lydia Meredith grabbed a line drive and was able to double Evie Smith off second base. Brynn Bauer clouted a home run; Halie Myers also scored on the play. Carly Scheurer got the third out on a grounder to second base.
P-W scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to trim the Shamrock lead to 4-2.
Lauren Martin retired the first two Shamrock batters in the fourth inning on grounders to the shortstop. Laynie Meredith beat out an infield single. She went to second base on Rylee Scheurer’s single to left field. Laynie Meredith took third base and Rylee Scheurer advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Carly Scheurer doubled to deep center field to drive in Laynie Meredith and Rylee Scheurer. Lauren Martin got the third Shamrock out on a grounder to the shortstop.
St. Patrick scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 6-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the P-W leadoff batter was out on a fly to centerfield. Olivia Black walked. Shamrock first baseman Natalee Teachworth made a great running catch on the next batter’s foul ball. Macy Noel came in to pinch run. Lauren Martin doubled to doubled to centerfield to drive in Macy Noel from first base. St. Patrick played fine defense as Centerfielder Rylee Scheurer threw to Shortstop Lydia Meredith, who cut down Lauren Martin as she tried for third base as Mara Schrauben applied the tag for the third out.
P-W scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the St. Patrick lead to 6-3.
Emma Honsowitz led off the fifth inning for St. Patrick with a walk. Mara Schrauben lined a single to centerfield to move Emma Honsowitz to third base. Mara Schrauben took second on the throw to third base. Emma Honsowitz scored and Mara Schrauben took third base on Addie Scheurer’s RBI groundout to the shortstop. Lauren Martin struck out the next Shamrock batter and got the third out on a grounder to the shortstop.
St. Patrick scored one run in the top of the fifth inning to push their lead to 7-3.
Evie Smith singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for the Pirates. The next batter was out on a fly to left field. Brooke Kramer singled to push Evie Smith to third base. Catcher Addie Scheurer picked the Pirate runner off third base. The next batter was out on a fly to first base to end the inning.
Lauren Martin retired the Shamrock sixth inning leadoff batter on a groundout to third base. Rylee Scheurer singled to right field. Rylee Scheurer stole second base and then third base. Carly Scheurer walked and stole second base. Lydia Meredith lined a shot so hard off the pitcher’s glove that it knocked her mask off; she drove in Rylee Scheurer and Carly Scheurer went to third base. Lauren Martin struck out the next batter and got the final out of the inning on a groundout to third base.
St. Patrick scored one run in the sixth inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Carly Scheurer retired the three Pirate hitters in the sixth inning on a fly to center field and two strikeouts.
P-W Centerfielder Brooke Spitzley made a nice running catch to retire the St. Patrick seventh inning leadoff batter. Pinch Hitter Hayley Fleischer was out on a popup to the shortstop. Tori Sandborn grounded a single to centerfield. Lauren Martin got the third Shamrock out of the seventh inning on a fly to left field.
Carly Scheurer retired the Pirate seventh inning leadoff batter on a foul fly to first baseman Natalee Teachworth, who made a really quick reaction to get to the ball. The next two batters were out on a popup to the shortstop and a grounder to first base.
St. Patrick won the game 8-3 to sweep the doubleheader.
Brynn Bauer had a home run and two RBI for Pewamo-Westphalia. Evie Smith had two singles. Lauren Martin had a double and one RBI. Brooke Kramer had a single.
Rylee Scheurer led the Shamrock batting attack with a home run, two singles and an RBI. Carly Scheurer had a double and three RBI. Lydia Meredith and Addie Scheurer each had a single and one RBI. Mara Schrauben, Tori Sandborn and Laynie Meredith each had a single.
