Perry at Fowler – – First Game of Baseball Doubleheader – – The Bleacher Denizen – – May 7, 2026 – – by Chuck Krafft

Today, the Bleacher Denizen is visiting Fowler where the hometown Eagles will compete with the Perry Ramblers in a baseball doubleheader. It is very cold out today, but your Bleacher Denizen has three layers under his leather jacket, so he has high hopes that he will not freeze. (However, there IS some worry about polar bears!)

Here are the starting lineups. Fowler is the home team and Perry will bat first.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the occasionally alert eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to get his baseball or softball career going. It seems that coaches expect people playing in the outfield to catch balls and not get too carried away enjoying the great outdoor expanses.

Fowler Pitcher Beckett Hansen retired Perry’s leadoff batter in the top of the first inning on a bouncer to the mound. Brady Doerner drew a walk and stole second base. Beckett Hansen retired the next two hitters on a fly to first base and a strikeout to end the inning.

Perry Pitcher Wyatt Patrick retired the three Fowler batters in the first inning on a strikeout, a grounder to second base and another strikeout.

Beckett Hansen retired Perry’s first two batters in the top of the second inning on fly to second base where Chase Katich made a great running catch and a strikeout. Olyan McFarland reached first base on an error. Beckett Hansen struck out the next Rambler hitter to end the inning.

Trevor Spicer walked to lead off the bottom of the second inning for Fowler. Wyatt Patrick struck out the next Eagle hitter and got the second out on a popup to first base. Trevor Spicer stole second base. Drew Weber walked. Trevor Spicer and Drew Weber executed a double steal that put Trevor Spicer on third base and Drew Weber on second. Wyatt Patrick struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Beckett Hansen retired the first two Perry hitters in the top of the third inning on a bouncer to the mound and a fly to left field. Brady Doerner singled to right field and took second base on a passed ball. Perry made its third out on a line drive to third base.

Cam Rhynard walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning for Fowler and took second base on a bunt single by Chase Katich. Everyone was safe when an error was made on Jesse Andros’ sacrifice bunt. Cam Rhynard scored, Chase Katich advanced to third base and Jesse Andros to second base on a wild pitch.

Chase Katich scored and Jesse Andros took third base when Noah Schafer beat out an infield single. Noah Schafer stole second base. Wyatt Patrick retired the next hitter on a line drive to second base. Jack O’Hare singled to right field and drove Jesse Andros and Noah Schafer home. Jack O’Hare stole second base.

Beckett Hansen singled to right field and Jack O’Hare advanced to third base. Beckett Hansen stole second base. Jack O’Hare scored and Beckett Hansen took third base on a sacrifice bunt by Drew Weber. Liam Laske walked and stole second base. Fowler made its third out on a fly to center field.

Fowler scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Nolan Krupp singled to right field to lead off the top of the fourth inning for Perry. Beckett Hansen made a great play on a bouncer to the mound to rob Wyatt Patrick of an infield single. (Everything came together when I saw Mr. Hansen lining up at shortstop in the second game.) Nolan Krupp took second base on a play. Beckett Hansen ignored the Bleacher Denizen’s admiration and struck out the next Rambler hitter.

Nolan Krupp advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Olyan McFarland walked and stole second base. Nolan Krupp and Olyan McFarland both scored when Treven Kucish was safe at first base on an error. Beckett Hansen retired the next Perry hitter on a grounder to second base to end the inning.

Perry scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Fowler lead to 5-2.

Chase Katich drilled a sharp single to right field to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning for Fowler. Chase Katich stole second base and went to third base when Jesse Andros beat out an infield single. Jesse Andros stole second base. Wyatt Patrick got the next Eagle batter to popup up to the pitcher. Trevor Spicer lined a single to left field to drive Chase Katich home as Jesse Andros advanced to third base.

Wyatt Patrick retired the next batter on a grounder to the pitcher; he checked the runner at third base to make sure he did not score. Jesse Andros scored and Trevor Spicer advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Wyatt Patrick retired the next Fowler hitter on a grounder to second base to end the inning.

Fowler scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 7-2.

Johnny McConnell reached first base on an error to lead off the top of the fifth inning and got to second on an errant pickoff play. Beckett Hansen retired the next hitter on a foul popup where Fowler Catcher Jesse Andros made a great running catch. Tyger Whitbeck hit a sharp line drive to Shortstop Noah Schafer, who quickly reacted to catch the ball and then alertly relayed the ball to second base to double off the runner and end the inning.

Logan France came in to pitch for Perry. Wyatt Patrick went to first base and Brady Doerner moved to center field.

Drew Weber walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for Fowler and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Liam Laske walked.

Zack Miller went in to pitch for Perry. Wyatt Patrick moved to third base. Tyger Whitbeck moved to shortstop. Logan France went to left field. Brady Doerner went to first base.

Drew Weber and Liam Laske did a double steal that put Drew Weber on third base and Liam Laske on second. Cam Rhynard singled to drive Drew Weber home as Liam Laske took third base. Liam Laske and Cam Rhynard scored when Chase Katich reached third base on an error. Chase Katich scored on a wild pitch.

Jesse Andros walked and stole second base. Noah Schafer walked. Jesse Andros and Noah Schafer worked a double steal that put Jesse Andros on third base and Noah Schafer on second. Jesse Andros scored on a wild pitch. This gave Fowler a ten run lead and Fowler won the game 12-2 because of the mercy rule.

Brady Doerner and Nolan Krupp each had a single for Perry.

Wyatt Patrick pitched four innings for Perry. He struck out four batters and gave up five runs although only three were earned runs.

Chase Katich had two singles for Fowler. Jack O’Hare had a single and two RBI for Fowler. Noah Schafer, Trevor Spicer and Cam Rhynard each had one single and one RBI. Jesse Andros and Beckett Hansen each had one single. Drew Weber had one RBI.

Beckett Hansen pitched the complete five inning game for Fowler. He struck out four batters while giving up only two hits and two unearned runs.
