Fowler at Portland St. Patrick – – Second Game of Softball Doubleheader – – The Bleacher Denizen – – May 11, 2026 – – by Chuck Krafft

Your Bleacher Denizen is in Portland covering the softball doubleheader between the Shamrocks of Portland St. Patrick and the Fowler Eagles. I also covered the first game of the doubleheader; here is the play by play of that game. https://thebleacherdenizen.com/2026/05/12/fowler-at-portland-st-patrick-first-game-of-softball-doubleheader-the-bleacher-denizen-may-11-2026-by-chuck-krafft/

After a short break where I learned of a good Saturday morning game between St. Patrick’s top-rated baseball team and Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, it was time to focus on the second game of the softball doubleheader.

Even though we are on St. Patrick’s field, Fowler is will be the home team and bat last. This can confuse your Aging Bleacher Denizen. (Does the noble St. Patrick know this is going on?) However, the umpires, players and coaches seem to have little if any trouble with this concept, so the confusion may just be a Bleacher Denizen thing.

Here are the starting lineups.

It is now time to review the events of this game through the occasionally alert eyes of an Aging Bleacher Denizen who was never able to escape church league in the days of yore when he attempted to play ball. (His coach was starting to get annoyed when he could not get the balls out of his glove and had to throw the glove as well as the ball to first base to get the runners out.)
